We don't get wounded alone and we don't heal alone." Carl Jung. Are wounds from the past affecting how you are functioning in the present and your thoughts of the future? Our early experiences can create patterns of trust and distrust which affect how we are in our relationships with others and ourselves, as well as how we respond to trauma and stress throughout our lives on many different levels. However, whilst we may be shaped by the past I believe that we do not need to be trapped by it.

In my work as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, I help adults who are experiencing considerable difficulties with their thoughts and feelings about themselves and in their relationships with others - particularly with partners, family and at work. These difficulties are often associated with a variety of psychological problems and negatively affect mental health, sometimes severely. The origin of psychological problems is often rooted in problems with caregiving experienced as an infant, child and teenager.

I'm a psychoanalytic psychotherapist trained to MA and Doctoral level respectively with adults and children and adolescents. I'm also a course tutor for a psychotherapy course at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. I have experience of working across the age range with a wide variety of mild to moderate, sometimes more severe presenting problems. Some people see me because they're very unhappy, distressed or worried, others come because they want to understand themselves better and they're curious about why they encounter the same patterns.

What does it mean to be yourself in a society that discourages self-expression? To live in a world that disconnects us from each other and from ourselves. A world that distracts us from what’s important and meaningful. The messages we receive from people is not ‘be who you are’, but instead ‘be what I need’. In such a place, being ourselves is a revolutionary act. In what ways are people telling us to be what they need? I’m glad you asked. It can be as simple as a raised eyebrow, or a disparaging look. Or more obvious do’s and don’ts. We get the message.

Do you put on a brave face but feel different on the inside? Perhaps you’re empty and numb, or overwhelmed by emotions? Are you finding it hard to cope day-to-day? I know how tough life can be at times and how lonely it feels when no one seems to understand. If you’re wondering when you’ll feel happy or hopeful again, or you’re worrying about the future and fearing the worst, or maybe you’re struggling with a big change and a sense of who you are; I’d like to help. Being able to talk freely to someone, without fear of judgement or shame, can be a huge relief.

You may have experienced something quite difficult or perhaps you are suffering from anxiety or low mood, relationships might not be going so well, or you feel stressed and overwhelmed. In therapy we can explore how these issues are showing up and discover what you need to move forward. We can work together to make sense of your situation and feelings. I will listen exquisitely, gently challenge your beliefs and encourage fresh perspectives. Through small shifts you may find an alternative way. This approach builds on the momentum that brought you to therapy in the first place.

I practice as a Mindfulness Based Cognitive psychological trainer. I have worked with many clients including, Olympic & Paralympic athletes, pro golfers, pro footballers, university sports, pro cycling, creatives, leaders & organisations. I train people in how to enhance their self-belief for: performance optimisation, emotional regulation, resilience & effective decision making. Pressure in performance environments is a certainty & how we perceive pressure determines our response. We can choose how to think about pressure and this depends on our level of self-belief, the essential ingredient when navigating demanding environments.

My name is Pippa. I'm a compassionate integrative therapist, working with adults aged 18+. You may have a specific issue you want to work through in therapy such as persistent anxiety, relationship challenges, low self esteem or navigating a life change such as divorce. Or perhaps you have a persistent sense of something being wrong and feel that talking confidentially to a therapist may help. Whatever your reason, reaching out is the first step to changing patterns of behaviour that may be holding you back, with knowledge and tools to gain a sense of purpose, self compassion and start to feel more in control of your life.
