I work in person with children and young people up to 18 years old who are experiencing emotional difficulties and are struggling with their mental health. I have a Master’s degree in Integrative Child Psychotherapy and, together with years of experience of working within CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), I am able to support children and young people with a variety of presenting needs including trauma, anxiety, depression, and neurodiversity. Recognising that children’s lives are rooted in their family, I also offer a supportive space for parents and carers to think together with me about presenting concerns.

Life isn't always easy. When things are too difficult to handle alone, it can be helpful to talk with someone outside of your situation without fear of judgement. I provide a safe, confidential space to be heard, understood and cared for. My primary aim is to be a source of support, hope and encouragement during your counselling journey.

Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem/confidence, trauma, ADHD, family issues, bereavement, stress, PTSD, addiction, abuse, domestic and sexual abuse are only some of the issues that I can help you with. Struggling with any of these issues can be exhausting and draining and at times so overwhelming that we feel dehumanised. To top it all the feeling of guilt that we are not able to cope and the expectations of others can add so much weight to our already heavy load. Why me? What have I done to deserve this? When will it all stop? What can I do to help myself? Where do I go for help?

Many people have had an experience of therapy in the past and it has not produced the results they wanted. This in part can be due to the person going to see a therapist who is trained in one specific therapeutic modality (approach), who then tries to make the client fit that one approach. Collaboratively, we will work together to help you feel better, happier, more in control and confident in who you are as a person. As you begin to understand yourself and why you do things more, this will open you up to greater awareness in all parts of your life; home, work and relationships.

'It's ok not to be ok... Your issues, conflicts, feelings and emotions are always valid. Even if it seems like other people have experienced ‘worse’ or experienced the same and don’t feel affected by them. Even if what troubles you happened a long time ago, even if no one knows, your hurting is real and you deserve a space to talk about it. It isn’t desperate or needy or attention-seeking, it’s self-care and probably the bravest thing you’ll ever do...'

Difficulties addressed in therapy can include anxiety, fear, depression, sadness, loneliness, suicidal thoughts, stress, work and relational issues. Sometimes we may need some additional support at a particular or difficult point in our lives. If you feel that you have areas of your emotional life, past or present, which seem to feel outside of your control and that you would like to work on, or understand in more depth, then Psychotherapy might be for you.

Teen Counsellors
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
