You may be asked the question "How are you?" many times, but how often have you been able to respond to that question truthfully? You may hold back your emotions and feel anxious, confused and overwhelmed by life difficulties. You may feel that you cannot share what is inside you for fear of being judged, misunderstood or simply you cannot trust people around you. It may feel safer to reply: "I am ok!" and life goes on without giving a voice to your deep needs. My aim is to offer you a warm and non judgemental space where together we can explore the source of your emotional difficulties. Your emotional wellbeing is my priority.

It may be that you have something specific you want to talk about, you may want to calm the negative thoughts that are going around your head or you may be looking to find help for someone you care about. Perhaps when you just want someone who will listen to you, a space to off-load where there is no worry about saying the wrong thing, the fear of being judged or where feeling like you are being an imposition. I am here to help you when you are ready to take the next step.

We can all have difficulties in everyday life and encounter problems that we simply find hard to cope with alone. You may feel worried, anxious, low, confused, isolated or may be experience difficulties in relationships. You may be suffering from feelings of low self esteem or low self confidence. You may have been diagnosed with anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, or maybe you are just feeling sad. When these feelings and thoughts persist and become overwhelming it may be difficult to know which way to turn.

There are many reasons why individuals choose to access therapy and it can be a daunting, sometimes painful, step. Please be assured that, with over a decade of experience, I offer an even-handed yet supportive approach in a safe, confidential setting. If you are feeling disconnected from yourself and those around you, are struggling to manage feelings of anxiety, are managing your distress through strategies such as alcohol, illegal substances, or self-harming behaviours, have experienced a trauma, or witnessed a traumatic event, I can help.

Where do you start with addressing your problems and how do you know how to choose the right therapist? The most important factor is the relationship with the therapist we choose. We have to feel safe and confident that we are in good hands in which we can share most private thoughts and feelings. I am a psychoanalytical psychotherapist in private practice based in Kingston, Surrey, I also work and teach psychotherapy students in the Bowlby Centre (Center for attachment based Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy ) in London. Additionally I am a member of The International Psychotherapy Group and Forum for independent psychotherapists.

Ever catch yourself thinking, ‘What is the point of all this?’ Yeah, life’s got a way of throwing chaos our way—whether it’s toxic work dynamics, relationship drama, or when old wounds show up and knock the wind out of you. Next thing you know, you’re stuck in a spiral of anxiety, feeling down, and wondering why the hell no one gets it. But here's the thing: you don’t have to fight through this mess alone. In therapy, we’ll tackle it together—working through the bullshit and finding a way forward, no matter what life throws at you.

Hello and thank you for visiting my profile. I am guessing you are curious to explore and potentially find someone who can help with how you are currently feeling. Perhaps you are finding your current circumstances and relationships challenging? Are you grappling with difficult emotions like depression, anxiety, or anger? Perhaps past or present experiences are holding you back or undermining your self-esteem? Or maybe you just feel a general sense of dissatisfaction, that something is ‘not quite right'.

Hi, I’m Jilna! I’m an integrative psychotherapist which means I combine different therapeutic approaches to tailor my practice to my clients’ unique needs. My core training is in person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and attachment theory and I also draw from different schools of thoughts such as compassion focused therapy and polyvagal theory. Some of the themes I often work with include emotional distress (such as anxiety, anger and dysregulation), relational challenges, trauma, grief, identity and life transitions.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
