I work with individuals, couples, families and young people aged 10 - 18. If you, you and your partner, your family or your teenager(s) feel stuck it can be difficult to navigate the issues causing this. Counselling can help open a conversation that will benefit the situation you find yourself/-selves in. Couple counselling may involve finding a joint focus in order to reach a goal that feels safe for both partners; sometimes couple counselling will result in separation work. Young people come with many issues that are important to them and must not be dismissed; this includes anxiety, panic, identity, loss and relationships.

It may be that you have something specific you want to talk about, you may want to calm the negative thoughts that are going around your head or you may be looking to find help for someone you care about. Perhaps when you just want someone who will listen to you, a space to off-load where there is no worry about saying the wrong thing, the fear of being judged or where feeling like you are being an imposition. I am here to help you when you are ready to take the next step.

You may be asked the question "How are you?" many times, but how often have you been able to respond to that question truthfully? You may hold back your emotions and feel anxious, confused and overwhelmed by life difficulties. You may feel that you cannot share what is inside you for fear of being judged, misunderstood or simply you cannot trust people around you. It may feel safer to reply: "I am ok!" and life goes on without giving a voice to your deep needs. My aim is to offer you a warm and non judgemental space where together we can explore the source of your emotional difficulties. Your emotional wellbeing is my priority.

Hi, thank you for clicking on my profile at, what I'm guessing, is a time in your life which isn't so easy. I understand that getting in touch might feel like a huge step, but please call or email if you feel I might be able to help. I feel that being able to express sometimes deep rooted distressing life experiences and feelings to an experienced, empathic psychotherapist can bring about real and rewarding life changes. Finding a safe and supportive environment to voice our deepest difficulties and unhappiness to someone, who will listen carefully without judgement, can help us towards a greater sense of wellbeing.

Hello, I am Aldona. You are here so maybe it means you are thinking about counselling or psychotherapy. Investing in mental health is as important as physical. Anybody can benefit from therapy no matter what age or gender you are. It can be very rewarding because it helps you be the person you want to be. In these times of uncertainty, uneasy economic and political situation; isolation, bereavement and also historic emotional issues could be experienced more frequently and intensively. Difficulties experienced for a prolonged time can lead to somatic problems. “A good life is a process, not a state of being" (Carl Rogers)

We can all have difficulties in everyday life and encounter problems that we simply find hard to cope with alone. You may feel worried, anxious, low, confused, isolated or may be experience difficulties in relationships. You may be suffering from feelings of low self esteem or low self confidence. You may have been diagnosed with anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, or maybe you are just feeling sad. When these feelings and thoughts persist and become overwhelming it may be difficult to know which way to turn.

Feeling low? Not sure why? Or maybe you know why but not sure what to do about it. Either way, I am here to help you work through this difficult time. It takes courage to reach out and ask for support so it is important to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable with. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to help you reflect on your personal experiences, develop self-awareness and make the changes you are looking for, to obtain a more fulfilling life. Asking for support is not admitting you can't cope, it's about looking for ways to help you cope.

The world is a very challenging place, particularly now. We never know what will emerge to test our resolve and wellbeing. When those episodes arise, it is often difficult to understand and make sense of what is going on.I offer a safe and confidential space where we can come together in a therapeutic setting to work through matters which are affecting you. Perhaps you are experiencing relationship difficulties, a loss such as bereavement or redundancy or are feeling anxious or depressed. It may be that you are struggling to find a direction in life or have a sense that something isn't right without knowing what it is.

I recognise how challenging it can be to start counselling. An enquiry can differ from one person to another. For some there may be a long-standing desire to talk to a counsellor, an event or maybe now just feels right For many people there maybe something that has happened in their life such as a breakdown in a relationship or a loss in their life that prompts a contact to be made. Alternatively, they may be consumed by feelings such as depression, anxiety, fear, anger or resentment. At times like these counselling can be helpful and offer much needed support.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
