As much as it can be wonderful, life can really difficult at times and this can leave us struggling with unwanted thoughts, feelings, and memories. These can easily lead to us getting stuck in a cycle of unhelpful and at times harmful patterns of behaviour that affect ourselves as well as other people. Sometimes we continue in these patterns even when we know they are not helping which can lead to more stress, frustration, and self-criticism. If this sounds like you, rest assured there is nothing wrong with you, you are just human and like all of us, are doing your best to manage life's challenges.

Do you or your young person feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed? Are you finding it hard to cope with the demands of everyday life? Coming to see a counsellor is a brave step towards making a change. What if you felt calmer and more in control? What difference would that make? If any of this sounds familiar you may benefit from counselling. I believe the potential is within you, but sometimes hard to find or access. Counselling is a form of healing and I believe the relationship between a therapist and client can help you move towards better ways of coping, improving self-confidence, self-worth and living a more fulfilling life.

I am an arts psychotherapist skilled in creative approaches as well as the traditional talking therapies. You need have no experience of the arts to benefit from arts psychotherapy, just an openness to thinking creatively around the issues you bring to therapy. Everyone is creative in their own unique way. By balancing left and right brain thinking, arts psychotherapy helps you process your thoughts and feelings obliquely, as well as directly, so you can come to a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships.

I have worked across a number of disciplines, but the last 18 years have been spent working in acute hospitals with patients, families and staff members. I have got extensive experience of working with patients with all sorts of physical health problems, including cancer and traumatic injuries. I can help people to adjust to long term conditions or come to terms with the consequences of illness and injury. I’m very experienced in helping the families of patients too and more recently have moved into supporting staff. Since the start of the pandemic I have worked specifically with people to manage work stress and life balance

I aim to provide a warm, supportive and consistent space to encourage you to find ways to explore your thoughts and feelings. I believe that the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor is very important, as is the need to feel safe in the therapeutic environment. To this end I am reliable, calm, empathic and honest with my clients. Within our sessions my integrative training allows me to draw on different ideas and approaches, meaning I can tailor my work for each individual person.

I enjoy working with young people and adults alike. I have been told by past clients that I am open, honest and friendly, which are qualities that all clients have valued. I like to problem solve and am a very logical and practical person. Having lived in several different countries, I have developed a good understanding of a range of issues for people from different cultures and backgrounds. I like to ask questions and truly get to know someone and never assume to know better. My clients are always the experts in their lives and I see myself as a guide to help them navigate to a calmer place.

My therapy is about the relationship, the safety and the quality of the bond that is created between us. That’s where the magic happens and the opportunity for change can occur. My clients can then build insight and clarity over positive and negative feelings, beliefs, motivations, thoughts, behaviours past, present and future. I support clients who are seeking support and understanding in transforming their lives to feel better regulated, authentic and able to make positive decisions.
