Is your child or adolescent struggling emotionally? Perhaps they have been dealt a blow, lost trust in others, feel confused or overwhelmed by their experiences. Sometimes they might behave in ways that negatively affects school and relationships, denying them of care and opportunities. They may be experiencing social-emotional difficulties (i.e. anxiety, low mood, trauma, bereavement, neurodiversity, identity issues, low self-esteem or been treated unfairly).

Life can get pretty tough. You may feel stuck, directionless and generally dissatisfied. Or you may be struggling with something specific, a difficult situation, anxiety or circumstances that feel overwhelming and out of control. Likewise, you might be experiencing difficulties in relationships, feel isolated or struggling with the way you see/feel about yourself in one way or another. Any of these may be a signal that it’s time to look beyond yourself to help make sense of your feelings or situation and find some kind of resolution. This is where I may be able to help.

I understand this must be a difficult time and seeking support is not easy, sometimes we need things to change and don't know where to begin , having experienced this myself I can empathize with this dilemma. I was fortunate to find a counsellor with whom I formed a trusting relationship which enabled me to find purpose and direction, overtime I gained a clearer understanding of self and others around me. This allowed me to grow and flourish in self -acceptance giving me the empowerment to achieve and move forward with my life.

Hello. I qualified as a person centred therapist in 2013 and feel privileged to have worked with so many individuals for whom life, for whatever reason, has become difficult, confusing or unbearable. Sometimes we have an idea as to why and sometimes we are at a loss. Either way, knowing how to help oneself can be a different matter entirely. I believe I can help.

The idea of talking to someone can feel really daunting, especially if you haven’t done it before and that’s ok and completely normal. Maybe you have experienced something difficult and need someone to talk to; perhaps you'd like to change the way you feel, experience and cope in certain situations; you may be finding it hard to cope with your mental health. By talking and processing your feelings and experiences it can offer a way of healing, it can offer you more mental and physical space to create a different way of being and start paving a way forward for you that you always hoped for, but may not have felt was achievable.

I have helped clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, parenting issues, body image concerns, and depression.
Let's face it, life can be hard. It's rarely straightforward and can be difficult to untangle things on your own. Therapy can be a wonderful place to work through your emotions and get to know yourself. I work with people to address issues and patterns within their lives which are preventing them from living fully. In our work together I will learn about your life experiences, feelings and beliefs and how they might be affecting your current situation. Using this information, I will help you recognize and change unhelpful recurring patterns.

Often, we find we can function incredibly well in other areas of our life, holding high pressure jobs, juggling multiple areas of responsibility such as parenting, caring for friends and older family members.
When people contact me for professional support, they often want fast results so as to be able to quickly start to feel better and to feel more in control. Over a period of more than 10 years as a Psychotherapist, I have developed a way of working that quickly allows people to feel more in control amidst the most complex of issues we face as humans. Whether it is a sudden, short-term situation that you need help to deal with, or a long-term ongoing issue that you have recently decided to address, I take a direct, action-led approach to helping you to tackle these challenges.

I am a qualified play therapist and child and parent relationship trainer. I work with children and their families as a therapist and coach. Parents get in touch for an array of reasons. Play therapy offers a safe space where children can process difficult emotions and experiences, build their confidence, reduce their anxiety and begin to recognise and regulate their emotions amongst many other things. CPRT offers parents an opportunity to learn the child centred skills play therapists use in the playroom which enable a parent to respond to behaviours rather than react and reduce conflict at home.

I have a special interest in issues around parenting, such as antenatal and post-natal anxiety and depression; still birth; miscarriage; infertility etc.
Perhaps you feel lost and upset that things are out of your control, you might be interested in counselling for something specific such as Anxiety, Depression, self-esteem/confidence, bereavement, anger and/ or you may be looking for longer-term psychotherapy. You might find yourself withdraw from people you love and having the impression no one can understand your pain. You might be at this stage of your life that you are seeking a new identity or the previous roles/ priorities you had in your life don’t satisfy you anymore.

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
