I have been working as a qualified & accredited Therapist for 15years, I offer a safe place where confidentiality is agreed, my values are offering a non-judgemental attitude, honest, and caring, trust enables the therapeutic relationship to build, which enables you to explore issues on a deep level. Through exploring issues, reflecting and eventually letting go, you are able to set new goals and build a better quality of life. This can be an empowering experience and help build your self esteem and confidence and access your power within, this starts the process of believing in self, "Self belief is everything”

My method of practice is Person Centred and Integrative. My sessions are client lead to suit individual’s needs. To enable clients to express themselves and feel Autonomy within the client counsellor relationship. Counselling gives you the opportunity to express difficult and challenging Experiences in our life’s. We all have our own ways of coping with whatever life throws at us and we all need to find meaning and sense of purpose to enable us to be, and to find our true selves.

How many minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years have you spent wanting to change the way you live your life? How many different methods have you tried to silence your inner critic ? But failed because self doubt, guilt, anger, shame, procrastination or fear has kept you psychologically paralysed? How many times have you told yourself that you are going to stop your self destructive behaviour, only to find yourself embroiled in the same self defeating habits the next day, week or month? Do you see yourself ebbing further and further away from your life goals, dreams and ambitions?

I use 3rd wave CBT approaches (incorporating both CBT and a mindfulness based approach) to identify areas for behavioural change.
I specialize in working with people experiencing significant emotional issues and/or distress associated with internal experiences which can get in the way of pursuing their goals and live a valued and meaningful life. In many cases these emotional issues or distress are associated with traumatic events from the past.

I'm Melanie, I have been a Counsellor for 18 years. I Specialise in couples therapy. Common issues that can impact a relationship are: Communication Issues. Emotional Distance. Affairs & Infidelity. Intimacy Issues. Significant Life Events. Overcoming Trauma. Some people will find the experience strengthens their relationship, others will realise separating and moving on independently is the best option for them. Not everyone in the relationship might end the process feeling the same way. I believe that strong relationships improve lives, families and mental health. I can offer you both a safe space to work on relationship issues.

Most clients that I see are suffering with anxiety, depression and stress. Most of this is caused by underlying issues such as low self-esteem, relationships issues and addiction to name a few. We're often aware of what our problems are but do not feel able to cope and need some support. Distressing situations and feelings can have such a destructive impact on our lives and therapy works by accepting your feelings, helping you to gain a different perspective, whilst challenging old negative beliefs; so you can move forward with a happier and healthier outlook on life.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
