I welcome issues including depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, sexual abuse and rape, relationship issues, men's mental health, grief and loss, anything which is making life difficult for you to navigate.
Silence can be difficult... its good to talk. I welcome you in a non-judgmental, safe space to express your fears, worries, and stresses, to disclose issues which may leave you unsure which way to turn. I would like to help you gain some clarity, and work towards effecting change. In the aftermath of significant life-altering events or shocks, counselling can offer you a structured avenue to unravel the complexities of your personal situation. You may have never experienced being truly yourself and voicing aloud what is causing you confusion and pain. Talking issues through with me can be a first step.

I offer support in areas including but not limited to, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, sexual abuse, relationship issues, mental health, grief and loss.
Everyone experiences difficulties at some point in their lives. It can be a lonely and often overwhelming time, and one of the hardest tasks is making the first step to reach out for help, well done for managing to come this far. Counselling can be incredibly helpful for anyone who is facing a range of personal challenges and emotional struggles. It can provide a safe and confidential space for individuals to openly express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns without judgment. This alone can be immensely therapeutic, as it allows you as an individual to gain clarity on your issues and explore potential solutions.

I’m here to listen, without judgement, and together we’ll work through these issues to help you to understand and accept yourself, and find a way to move forwards. You may not be sure what you want from counselling, and this is something we can work through together.

I’m a higher accredited professional practicing from Tiverton and remotely. I have worked with individual adults from many backgrounds since 2020. I offer a sincere, therapeutic opportunity to discuss whatever is troubling you. Therapy is a private conversation, away from daily expectations and assumptions. This will feel quite different to styles of therapy that use assessments or set protocols. The steady, regular setting helps you be sincerely inquisitive about what is going on. People often come to therapy when their usual ways of coping aren’t working. It’s about emotional healing, self-understanding and personal change.

I am a calm, approachable, empathic, and grounded counsellor with 8 years' experience. I have found that no matter who you are, what you have been through or are currently going through in life being genuinely heard and understood by someone else is a deeply healing process which often brings relief, calmness, and clarity. Wrestling with intense thoughts and feelings on your own can be utterly exhausting and can often leave you feeling stuck or going round in circles but having a safe and confidential space to share with a trusted professional can lead to surprising breakthroughs and a deeper understanding of yourself & your issues.

Do you feel stuck, anxious or overwhelmed? Perhaps worry, lack of confidence or low self esteem is having a negative effect on your life, causing you to feel isolated and alone. Talking to loved one about what we are experiencing can feel difficult, we worry that we are putting to much on them or we don't want them to worry about us. Talking to a counsellor can be really helpful at these times and can show a way forward. However I understand that a good counselling relationship is vital to support you in moving toward your goals.

There are so many reasons why you might be looking for a counsellor/therapist; these could be depression, anxiety, sadness, relationships, past abuse, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss etc and now the effects of Covid 19. Sometimes you just need a neutral place to think; someone to listen and help you make sense of what's going on and enable you to make the changes you want and need. I'm a counsellor it's what I do. I offer a compassionate non-judgemental place where you will be safe to speak. In our first appointment I will listen to what you bring and we can then decide together how to move forward together.

I am trained and qualified in helping clients with a variety of problems from depression and anxiety to Personality Disorders.
Clients generally come to me when they are struggling with some aspect of their emotions, thoughts or behaviour. My aim is to help my client with accepting or changing some aspect of these three areas. Every client comes with unique issues and from my seat I view the issues as one, "a block in the road to wellness". I am keenly aware that all clients come with individual goals and I am here to help. Many of my clients use the phrase “I just want to feel better". This is my hope for everyone who engages with me in therapy. “TO FEEL BETTER” I offer confidentiality, openness and transparency at all times.

My work deals universally with the reduction of suffering, your suffering. Specifically this may include Depression, Anxiety, Low Mood, Loss of purpose, Grief, Relationship issues, managing change and family problems. Often we can be lost in our thinking and we can swing, like a pendulum, between worries of the past and anxieties of the future, never really pausing to be present now. This is normal, we all have these times. However sometimes, some of us get stuck in these places and need some guidance to bring us into balance and offer us support,at difficult times in our lives.

We all experience difficult and painful times in life which sometimes feel too hard or overwhelming to manage alone. I have trained and worked as a counsellor and latterly as a psychotherapist with over ten years of clinical experience in private practice, a local therapeutic institution, and as an honorary psychotherapist in the NHS. Depression, anxiety, stress, loss and separation are some of the more difficult issues we come up against in life which can seriously impact the way we live our lives. My approach is psychoanalytically oriented with a focus on increasing self understanding and deepening insight into emotional issues

What is the goal of therapy for depression?
Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.
What happens in therapy for depression?
Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.
What therapy types help with depression?
Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.
Can therapy for depression be done online?
Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.
How effective is therapy for depression?
Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
