My areas of speciality and interest are anxiety, infertility, relationships, parenting, intersex conditions, psychosexual difficulties, and weight management (help with losing weight).
I view therapy as a collaborative enterprise between client and therapist, with the shared goal of gaining understanding and facilitating a process of acceptance or change. In recognising that we are all unique, each with our own beliefs, values and attitudes about ourselves, others, and the world, I believe that it is important to tailor therapy to the individual needs of my clients. I work with a range of psychological theories and approaches, including Existential-phenomenological therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement therapy, providing both short and longer-term therapy, where appropriate.

I've lots of experience with infertility problems and issues re egg/sperm donation (I am an accreditted member of BICA).
For many years, I have been working successfully with people who want to regain their sense of emotional ease in times of difficulty; people who, unsurprisingly, have found it hard to deal with and resolve their emotional difficulties alone. I work with people suffering from anxiety of all kinds, stuggles with loss, low feelings, difficulties in relationships and reactions to trauma.

I am also a registered member of BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association) and work with those experiencing difficulties in the perinatal period.
Regardless of your reasons for seeking counselling, your therapeutic journey is unique to you. I provide a safe, non judgemental space where we can explore any difficulties you are having in your life right now. We will also look back into your past, to try to understand patterns of behaviour that might be impacting your current life.   By exploring feelings and experiences and building self-awareness, we will work together to move towards a positive change for your future. My approach to counselling is psychodynamic which makes links from past experiences to present ways of feeling and relating to oneself and others.

I have extensive experience working with Eating Disorders and have also worked with anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal difficulties, compulsions, infertility, life transitions.
I am passionate about empowering clients to develop or strengthen their own sense of agency in the world, so that they feel in control. In order to do this, I work collaboratively with clients rather than acting as an expert. I walk alongside my clients in their therapeutic journey, rather than taking the lead and instructing which can at times feel disempowering. Whilst I use my knowledge and expertise to help clients consider new ways of viewing the world and offer guidance on ways they may consider changing their behaviours to better suit their needs, I do not act as an "expert" as I believe each person knows themselves best.

Are you trying to make sense of bewildering relationship difficulties? Are you struggling to decide what to do after a diagnosis of medically unexplained infertility? Are you a professional or career person looking for a psychotherapist who used to be a CEO, to help you make sense of the complexities of work? I can probably help you!.
Hello, I'm Sarah and I am a UKCP Psychodynamic Psychotherapist. I offer general psychotherapy to adults with relationship difficulties. I see individuals in person and on line. We explore what feels so difficult and why, and we work out together what you want. I also specialise and work with women who are having fertility treatments. I offer women more in-depth psychological support than many clinics offer. I work with women who are unable to conceive, and who rely on donor eggs and sperm. Finally, I am an ex NHS CEO and I work with professionals / career people to help them to think about what they want from work, post pandemic.

Cultural Issues, Depression, Grief, Identity Problems, Immigration, Infertility, Relationships, Transitions, Stress, Trauma.
My initial interest in Existential therapy was informed by my personal and professional experiences. Throughout the years I have explored diverse ways of supporting my clients, looking to improve their emotional and spiritual balance. Existential therapy encapsulates all my core beliefs about the therapeutic process and the powerful therapeutic connection between psychology and philosophy. It is anchored in the lived experiences (not their theoretical representation) and their relational context. It relates to human existence and predicaments, our choices and responsibilities, meaning and purpose, freedom and limitations.

My ideal client is someone that want to explore and actively engage in the therapeutic process. Committing to their emotional and mental wellbeing, willing to lean into the idea of change and self-discovery, what's not working for them and why, where did it come from, why has this happened. Being open-minded and curious and willing to develop and discover who they really are and what they can do in order to live a more healthier happier existence

Sometimes we just need someone to talk to, outside of our immediate circle, who will listen without judgement. There are so many reasons why we seek counselling and for each person these reasons may change over time. Whilst counselling for one person may be about releasing and being heard, for someone else it may be to work on the past or for another to work on current challenges or towards a future goal. Driven by the nature of our work together, I employ creative and/or practical methods, depending on your preferences and what you feel you need from your sessions. As each client’s needs vary, so does the therapy that I provide.

Want to explore what's brought you to therapy in a safe, compassionate, non-judgemental setting? I'm an Integrative psychotherapist - the essence of my practice is to work with you transparently and with warmth, empathy, humour and gentle challenge.  Perhaps you’re struggling - feeling alone and isolated.  Maybe you’re overwhelmed, depressed, burnt out or anxious.  It could be that what you’re experiencing isn’t any of these - maybe you don't feel yourself and you don’t know why.  If you’re experiencing any of these feelings, sharing your burden through counselling can help.

You thought that becoming a parent would be exciting, but you've also felt overwhelmed, anxious and like you’re struggling to cope. There's been an expectation that you'd be happy and even ‘glowing’ but the reality has often felt very different. It has left you wondering if you’re failing or 'not doing it right' which can make it hard to say you're not OK or ask for help. If this feels like you, please know that you are not alone and that these thoughts and feelings are very common, even if they’re not often talked about.

I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist. I believe that the most important part of therapy is that we build a strong and therapeutic relationship together so that you can feel safe to explore your feelings and concerns. We all have times in our life when we need support and it is not always possible to sort things out with the help of family and friends. I would be there to listen and not judge, in a confidential and caring environment. Counselling can feel daunting but can help to empower you to explore and reflect on ways of making changes and moving forward with your life.

Infertility Counsellors

How can infertility affect couples and their relationship?

Clients who are dealing with infertility may experience conflict and communication problems. It’s not unusual for shame, blame, and guilt to arise in cases of infertility, whether the source of the problem is one partner or both. This means that clients are upset and pulling away from their partner just when they need them the most. Some clients may find it difficult to spend time around friends and family who are pregnant. Friends and family can also make hurtful comments that increase tension during this time.

How does therapy for infertility issues work?

The therapist will begin by gathering information about the client or couple and make a treatment plan for their specific concerns. In addition to addressing common mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma reactions or PTSD, therapists can help clients improve their decision-making and deal with stressors unique to infertility. Some examples include coping with the “two-week wait” before a pregnancy test, the distress associated with a failed attempt or miscarriage, and the shame and blame sometimes associated with reproductive concerns.

What type of therapy is best for infertility issues?

Many therapists offer psychotherapy for individuals and couples who are dealing with infertility issues. Some helpful therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which can aid clients in reframing negative thoughts about their situation. Expressive writing and art therapy can help clients process difficult feelings. Clients might also benefit from group therapy to experience support from others who are dealing with the same problems.

How long does therapy for infertility issues take?

There is no set length for therapy that addresses infertility or reproductive concerns. Some clients might find it helpful to continue therapy during their pregnancy to have healthy ways to cope with any associated stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma. Some clients who decide not to pursue fertility treatments might benefit from the support of a therapist. The duration of therapy varies depending on the individual client’s specific needs and goals.
