I see it as a massive privilege to be invited into the lives of those I meet through this work and because of this, I am always grateful to those I work with for sharing their experiences with me. It's my belief that for any form of therapy to be effective, it is important to work towards building a strong relationship of trust, where people feel safe to speak about the things that are troubling them and to know that the person they are unfolding their troubles to is fully with them. My aim is for therapy to be your space to feel fully heard and for it to be a place where you can fully explore the meaning of your experience in life.

As a practical, creative engagement Psychotherapy offers a process of challenge and inquiry with the images and impulses that define our nature. Within the boundaries of a secure relationship the intent is to evoke a renewed sense of empowerment, authorship and consciousness within our lives. As a dear friend once said… we do the work to feel better.

My ideal client is themselves! Perhaps I should clarify: My ideal client is someone who, no matter their challenges, struggles or situation, is ready to be seen, and helped with them; who, once they feel confident enough with me, is able to be as authentic & open as they can be at that moment, so we can work together to help them to meet their goals; who isn't looking to be given a set of rules, or told how to live, but rather somewhere to explore fears, shame, anxieties and dreams with guaranteed confidentiality I know that some people find this intimidating, but like most challenges, you wouldn't be doing it alone.

Hi I’m Jeff. So tell me are you feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, anger or depression? I specialise in helping you move past these issues. I know life has been hard lately. and I am here for you. I know you want to move on with your life but something always seems to hold you back. Sometimes it is overwhelming to the extent that you know you need more than a chat with friends or a good night out. This goes deeper, and it is hampering you more than you would like to admit. You want some freedom from all this negative emotional baggage you seem to be carrying - it is time to let it all go... but how? It is time to get in touch…

Throughout our lives we may encounter challenging experiences. We may feel lost and lack the guidance and clarity to assist in making difficult choices. We may struggle to deal with the affliction of loss or bereavement. We may find it difficult to understand the sensations and emotions attached to trauma and relational conflicts. We may be unsure of our identity and how we fit within the world.

Hi. My name is Dan. Most of us seem to spend lots of our time thinking (or maybe worrying?) about our past, or envisioning our future. The difficult truth however is that in actuality the only genuine experience of life we can have is here, now, in the present moment. When we talk about our thoughts and feelings, our relationship to them changes. It's not magic. My role is simply to listen to you with compassion, without judgement, and perhaps help you to hear yourself differently, in the “safe space” of a confidential and (when it works) unique relationship. You are and can only ever possibly be the greatest expert on you.

Many of us carry deep wounds from our childhoods and early lives, often without being completely conscious of it. Still raw, or thickly scarred, these traumas can manifest in our adult lives, through sensitivity to hurt, inflexibility or unhelpful, self defeating behaviours. In time these unhealed wounds can wreak havoc in our lives and relationships. When this day comes we are left with two choices, either carry on as best we can, condemned to repeat the hurts of the past, or learn to give ourselves the care and love we have always deserved. Counselling offers an opportunity to begin a new life of healing and growth.

Hi, my name is Christian and I am a Person Centred Counsellor offering remote sessions. I specialise in domestic abuse, racial identity, discrimination and trauma. I'm commited to recognising inequalities and strive to offer a counselling experience that is inclusive and responsive to the needs of the person I work with. I have found remote working has increased my ability to reach individuals in need of a therapeutic space that is inclusive of exploring cultural and racial identity. As a French Black male, I can empathise with feelings of being othered, so I am passionate about supporting people to cultivate a sense belonging.

Hi, I hope your search for a therapist is going well. It can be a difficult process, but it is important to find a therapist who feels right for you. The relationship with your therapist is, on average, more helpful than their training and experience. Person-centred therapy is a relationship. It is not dependent on medical diagnoses, yet can help with all conditions. It is as effective as other leading therapies, but uniquely it puts the client at the centre of the process. There is no 'you should do this'. The questions, and the answers, will come from within during our conversations.

Hi, I’m Tom, I’m a CBT Therapist. You might be looking for a therapist because things aren’t feeling so good at the moment or maybe you’re looking for some support to stop things getting worse. It might be that you’re noticing unhelpful, unwanted or negative thoughts that are impacting your emotions. Or perhaps those thoughts and feelings are getting in the way of you doing the things you need and want to do, or stopping you living the life you want to live.

I endeavour to provide a safe, comfortable, quiet space for clients to explore sensitive issues. The relationship between myself and the client is at the heart of my approach. I believe that being with a client and offering a compassionate holding presence while they share their story is essential to establish a working therapeutic alliance before offering insight and psycho education. I adapt my approach to suit the needs of each client and integrate suitable interventions or tools work with whatever issue the client is presenting.

I see clients (and supervisees) from all backgrounds and specialise in working with men, or women seeking to better understand difficult relationships with men. I work with many issues including stress, feeling sad, low self-esteem, loss and relationship difficulties. My clients often want to change something about themselves and need a place to feel comfortable, share their emotions and better understand their needs. Articulating emotions and needs can be a struggle at first for some and I am experienced in helping clients to open up over time. My work is with individual clients online or in person, both short and long term.

Male Counsellors
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
