When people ask (if they do ask) "How are you?" Do you reply "Oh I'm fine, all good" or "Yeah, not too great actually" But what your voice inside actually wants to say is "If only they knew!", "Did they even hear what I just said" or "I don't know how to admit that I'm not ok, I have to keep it together!" Life can be beautiful and amazing and at other times it can pull the rug right from under your feet, with completely no warning. Presenting us with situations that trigger overwhelming anxiety, sadness, anger and sometimes a feeling of pure desperation. Where you've never felt more disconnected with yourself and others.

Sometimes we all need additional support to navigate difficult times and making a decision to seek help for our personal problems can be daunting. I believe in creating a safe space to work together, where you are the expert in your own experiences and I have the experience and expertise in psychological theories and techniques. I believe that by bringing together this expertise we can work together to enable you to achieve your unique personal goals. Some of the relationship problems I work with include communication issues, affairs and betrayals, family issues, parenting issues, separation and divorce.

Hi there, my name is Ellie and I am a Counsellor specializing in trauma and the common coping skills that develop from it's effects. These include the areas of disordered eating, body image issues (including body dysmorphia), addiction (self-medicating to avoid the effects of trauma), being drawn to abusive relationships and patterns of becoming stuck and paralyzed in these damaging dynamics. The heart of my therapeutic work is to help clients discover their authentic self and to gently dis-engage from painful old beliefs they may have internalized from complex and overwhelming environments.

Clients describe the space I create as an 'anchor', a caring environment and place of safety. I bring commitment and a positive approach to our work. Together, we will find hope and courage so you can move forward. I am known for being calming, gentle and resilient, creating a safe space for you to explore whatever you may choose to bring. I have an ability to reach out and connect at depth with people who are finding life a struggle, suffering and experiencing sadness. I consider it a privilege to work alongside my clients at these times, providing support and enabling insight, whilst they work through whatever is hurting them.

Anxiety and stress rob us of our confidence and make life feel too much. You may find yourself struggling or feeling inadequate. You might blame yourself for not coping as well as you think you should. Maybe you doubt yourself or tend to expect the worst. Life might feel hard to enjoy or have lost its pleasure. These are are all un-talked about side effects of anxiety and stress. Prolonged anxiety or stress takes its toll on us both physically and emotionally. We might suffer from: worry, panic, poor sleep, tiredness, muscle tension, trouble concentrating and feel unable to relax.

Are you feeling bogged down by the world? Are things are getting worse and you know you need help? Maybe you’re trying to find an outlet for the things you’re experiencing. Either way, something is bringing you toward counselling, which has led you here to me. I use the psychodynamic approach in therapy to make sense of your world. I help you connect unconscious behaviours that are unpleasantly shaping or sabotaging your life. By bringing awareness to it, you can make sense of it to create real changes. Some of these unpleasant things can show up in the form of explosive anger, panic attacks, or even avoidant behaviours.

Do you feel overwhelmed, unsafe and lonely? Are you finding elements of your life a struggle and don't know where to turn? Can you no longer see the wood for the trees and have lost direction? Many people lose touch with the person they are supposed to be for many reasons and seek to find their true selves again but may just need a helping hand and support along the way. Counselling can be the first step back to removing the barriers which have kept you lost and help you back on the path you were intended to follow.

I specialise in working with clients facing Stress and Anxiety in their lives. Life can be unpredictable and overwhelming. Anxiety is actually an entirely natural and healthy response to feeling threatened or in danger, a mechanism designed to keep us safe. However, problems can arise when our anxiety response becomes ‘unhealthy’, in some cases it can begin to negatively impact our lives and this is when we may require additional support.

Counselling will provide a confidential and non-judgemental environment to allow you to take back control of your life. Counselling will empower you to gain insights and develop coping strategies that are most effective for your specific situations and needs. You can then take these away and enjoy all the things important to you. Every person is unique and different, and I ensure that I work with clients based on this as I do not believe that a blanket approach works. I can help you get in touch with inner child issues such as abandonment, loss, grief, low self-worth, neglect, betrayal, shame and guilt.

Therapy is about building a shared understanding of what you are facing. If you are struggling with trauma, family issues, career issues, relationships, abuse, coping difficulties, I can help. Everyone faces challenges from time to time. This is important and helps us to grow and develop our resilience and wellbeing. However, sometimes life can feel tricky for prolonged periods of time and can leave us feeling overwhelmed and worried that things may never get any better. A clinical psychologist can support us to better understand the social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties we are experiencing. They can help us to develop our own resilience by introducing new ways of thinking about and managing situations that leaves us feeling less troubled and more content.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
