From time to time, we all experience feelings of stress, sadness, anger and guilt as we navigate through different life challenges, but sometimes we find it just a little bit harder to cope than we are normally used to.
Welcome, my name is Zak and I am an integrative psychotherapist, counsellor and mindfulness practitioner, I am also the founder of Cultivating Therapeutic Counselling, a growing private practice in North London & Cheshunt. I work with individuals and couples, offering you a warm, confidential and non-judgemental environment, helping you to explore your thoughts, emotions and behaviours in a space where you can feel safe and listened to. I will work beside you and help you to gain an insight and understanding into the struggles and difficulties you may be facing in your life, as I know directly what it feels like to feel overwhelmed.

Sometimes life puts hurdles in our way just when we think things are going smoothly. Feeling unhappy, low mood, anxious. It’s at times like this we will explore what it’s like in your world. Learning to understand why you feel this way, what’s the effect on you & how best to deal with the situation. Learnt behaviours become clearer, why you react in a certain way will help you understand you. Becoming the person you want to be to enjoy life in the way you want. You grow & change. Relationships change, life changes with a contentment as you set goals to achieve what you are looking for without realising you wanted it.

People reach out to me when they're tired of not feeling good enough. You may not know why you feel like you do and that's okay. Comparing yourself to others may make you doubt yourself. You may struggle to say "no" and worry about what people think. You may feel anxious and/or stressed and find it difficult to switch off properly. Constantly overthinking situations can be exhausting. You may want to find better ways of coping and feel more in control of life. Being more aware of your feelings and needs can help with communication. Putting in boundaries for yourself can improve relationships with those around you.

If you are feeling troubled and are not sure how to move forward it may be a relief to talk things through. I specialise in working with people who have lost someone close, experienced a trauma that haunts them or an unexpected change in life such as a sudden loss, a health, work, or family problem. Difficulties in your relationships or work can cause anxiety, anger and loneliness in daily life and impact your sense of self. Often problems stem from the past, and unhealthy patterns can re-emerge. I can offer a safe space where together we can explore, locate, and work through what is troubling you so as to help you move forward.

Sometimes it is hard to speak to family or friends about things which are deeply personal or perhaps tinged with shame, embarrassment, sadness, anger, indecision or even guilt.
I work with both individuals and couples from a lovely, discreet counselling room on the edge of Epping, within easy distance from Harlow, Loughton, Ongar, Chigwell and Waltham Abbey. I work with couples who have usually either hit a crisis point in their relationship or experienced a gradual deterioration over time and require help to get back on track. I support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, loneliness, trauma, sexual abuse, co-dependency, loss and bereavement. My couples training has been with Relate, working with many issues including infidelity, loss of desire, conflict, anger etc.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
