Every person has individual needs and your life experience is unique to you. It can often be difficult to pinpoint what may be causing you distress, but issues including anxiety, low self-esteem, relationships, life events, difficult childhood experiences, loss and bereavement are just a few of the reasons why people seek support through counselling. It is my aim as your counsellor to support you as best I can to empower you and enable you to grow in confidence to realise and understand that you hold the answers. You are the expert of you.

I am an experienced counsellor PROVIDING THERAPY IN THE OUTDOORS. Sometimes we want to talk but sitting in a counselling room might not feel like the right space for you. WALKING WHILST TALKING might just give you the space and freedom to begin to understand some uncomfortable feelings and past experiences in the safe hands of myself within nature. Being in nature will help you to learn how to resource yourself whilst processing the past giving you a clearer feel of the future. You may feel anxious or depressed, struggling with relationships. I work from Pittville Park, The Cotswolds and Crickley Hill. I also do home visits.

Therapy can often involve seeing a professional, responding to questions that will help them figure out what's wrong, and taking another person's advice on how to deal with their difficulties. However, I offer a more humanistic approach to therapy, in which I will support you as you embark on a journey of self-discovery and help you find the solutions you've been looking for. You are, after all, the authority on your own life. I offer online and face to face sessions, equine therapy and walk and talk therapy. www.personcentredtherapy.uk

Hi, I am Max ( Qualified Person Centred Therapist) and I know from my own experience, that life can sometimes be a struggle. Events and experiences can leave us feeling lost, isolated or directionless . At such times, reaching out for help can feel very difficult and it is important that your search leads you to someone you feel you can trust . Counselling is an opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings ,which might be affecting many different areas of your life. With careful and empathic listening, I endeavour to support you in finding your own way through what is often too complex and difficult to manage alone.

Here you are, searching for something that feels right for you. So, to introduce my way of working: as a transpersonal (psychospiritual) psychotherapist, the work of psychotherapy is placed within the immense context, or ultimate reality, of oneness. As you read my words, you may be feeling anxious, depressed, sad, angry, confused, imprisoned, disconnected, numb, lost....or yet something else. However, as you read these words, I suggest you assess your readiness for the spiritual self-development I offer: a courageously self-honest, open-mindedly questioning, process of deepening awakening consciousness.

Do you ever feel that your life could be better? Maybe there is not enough satisfaction and joy in your life, maybe you feel stuck, perhaps because you have been unable to create the life you want, or because relationships, either at home or work, seem to repeat in unhelpful ways without resolution. Sometimes these circumstances can interact with anxiety, depression or other difficulties, causing an unhelpful spiral which leave you feeling even less able to make positive change. Contacting a therapist may feel difficult, but it can be the first step towards understanding the blocks preventing you from living the life you want.

I provide counselling for the challenges of life that neurotypical and neurodiverse people experience including autistic/ADHD adults, children and young people. I work sensitively and adapt to the needs of the individual. Often this involves working with the person and their environment to reduce the distress caused by sensory inputs. I work with clients and therapists in an open and authentic way; offering warmth, creativity and challenge using ourselves, nature and animals to facilitate our work.

I recognise that life is a journey that can sometimes be a struggle. Life in this modern world is often chaotic, stressful and moves at such a fast pace, yet our reptilian brains are still designed to deal with cave man threats. This can lead to our bodies being flooded with fight, flight or freeze responses. In time these can build and lead to conditions such as anxiety, depression and low level trauma if not dealt with correctly. Having the support to help you through is not always easy to find.

Transgender Counsellors
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognise a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognise a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
