Therapy is a collaborative process during which together we look at your feelings and how you deal with them. We will learn a great deal about this very quickly, as we take a look at recent examples in your life and how you process your emotions around these. This is the work of therapy and is the most effective way of helping you to achieve your goals.

"Sometimes you don't realise the weight of something you've been carrying until you feel the weight of its release." Anon. At times, we all need to talk but may struggle to find the right person to turn to. Those closest to us may not always be able to offer what we need. This is where therapy may be helpful. Someone to listen to you without passing judgement or giving advice; someone who believes you know best what you need and who can provide you with a safe, confidential place to explore those needs.

Hello and Welcome, Life has indeed become complex. Many of us are now struggling with our mental health in ways that are no longer manageable. Our past and present hurts, our unprocessed feelings have risen to the surface. We find ourselves thinking, feeling and acting in ways that do not reflect who we want to be. Some of us have Grief, Trauma or Addiction that we just can’t seem to work through. As a Senior Accredited Psychotherapist with a Master Degree and EMDR Accredited, I've seen thousands come through my door, with various presenting issues, undergo genuine transformation, healing and leave with hope for the future.

This can affect our confidence handling relationships, making decisions and generally, our ability to just cope with the pressures that each day brings. Reaching out to an experienced therapist will enable you to talk openly about your concerns and be listened to without being judged. For many people, this is a profound way of bringing about positive and lasting change.

Sometimes life can present difficult challenges. When that happens it's easy to feel confused, lonely, stuck and perhaps even judged. I can help you by providing a space for realisation, processing trauma and finding greater inner peace and freedom to live the life you wish for. I believe that the most important relationship we have is with ourselves. Having self compassion and being at peace with one’s self can be difficult to practice. I want to bring you hope and support you in becoming your own best friend.

We all have a different life, with different challenges and struggles. Whether you are facing challenges or seeking personal growth, I am here to offer you a safe non-judgemental space and compassion, helping you to explore, reflect on, and understand what you are experiencing through talking therapy. I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor, a registered member of BACP with a background in nursing and midwifery. My approach is based on psychoanalytic theories which focuses on how early childhood experiences unconsciously relate to how we feel, think and behave, and how those unprocessed past experiences shape our current life.

At times, our experiences and emotions can feel overwhelming. This can impact us physically, emotionally as well as psychologically. Over time, this can have consequences for our day to day lives, relationships and work. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can provide an important, safe, confidential space to gain insight of our ourselves, our experiences and our difficulties. This can involve receiving help to identify, and work through, the underlying events, relationships, beliefs and fears which may be causing destructive patterns as well as feelings of being stuck, frustrated, lost and empty.

If you are reading this there is a chance that you (or someone you know) may be experiencing some emotional difficulties. In my personal experience, counselling and psychotherapy can help with a wide range of problems related to life and living. Many of us don't know why we feel unhappy, lacking in confidence or generally anxious. Some experience anxiety in relation to situations where other people seem to cope without a problem. Sitting down with a trained therapist can help alleviate distress as well as uncover the self-defeating patterns we may have stumbled into as a consequence of life's events.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
