I specialise working with couples, families, parents, children and young people. Relationships can sometimes be difficult, and counselling can help to unpick what is happening to those involved. Maybe your child is struggling and failing to live life to the full, maybe anxiety is holding them back or they are lashing out at those around them. Adult relationships can also experience difficulties such as conflict or miscommunication. Having a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to help explore and make sense of what is going on can help individuals and couples find resolve and move forward in their lives.

I would like to thank you for taking the first step to getting some help and support with the challenges that you are facing at the moment. Life can be hard sometimes and seeking the support we need when we need it takes courage and strength. Its important to acknowledge that you can’t change what’s going on around you, until you start changing what’s going on within you. I can help you heal, resolve issues and move forward towards being your true self.

I'm Louise and I’m a qualified person-centred counsellor, and a registered member of the BACP. I work in a non-judgemental, warm mannered and confidential way, where we can safely explore the issues that are negatively impacting your well-being, because sometimes our problems can feel too much and too difficult to manage by ourselves. I am here to listen. Counselling can provide you with the space and time to explore how you fit in the world and help you to gain clarity, acceptance and authenticity.

Hello, my name is Tina, Life can become overwhelming at times and finding the right counsellor can be daunting, especially when you want to find someone to talk through personal issues. I want to help you express yourself in a confidential environment. I am non-judgmental, down-to-earth, and supportive, with much NHS experience. Life is not always straightforward, it may feel impossible to move forward and to visualise your potential self. Family and friends can help, however, this may not always be possible, I can help you find your self-belief and motivation again.

We have all known times in our lives when we needed support from others. Research has shown that it can help to talk through our concerns, particularly when they don't seem to resolve themselves and at times seem to get louder in our heads. Allowing someone else to see your life through their eyes, uncluttered by negative perceptions, empathising with you and celebrating who you are, can have transformative therapeutic effects. Therapy can give people choices as to new ways forward, feeling more in control of their lives through a developed self awareness, enabling a person or couple to work on a plan B.

Waitlist for new clients
I have worked with and supported individuals with a range of complex mental health difficulties for over twenty years, initially as a nurse and now as a qualified CBT therapist . Many of my clients have needed an alternative way to view their situation to 'free' them from the distress they have been experiencing, along with a tailored tool box of coping strategies which they can choose from to empower them to manage the challenging experience. I have helped adolescent & adults experiencing OCD, PTSD, psychosis and/or complex emotional/relational difficulties, where the intervention required has been stress/anxiety targeted.

As a Person-Centred practitioner, Empathy, Acceptance and Honesty are at the core of my practice. I bring a warmth to the counselling room which allows my clients a safe place to explore whatever they bring. I believe that in viewing each person as an individual a unique process takes place, where, through active listening, healing can occur. I have learnt that although past events cannot be changed, what can be changed over time is the relationship with your feelings in regard to the traumatic situation experienced and what you have grown to believe about yourself.

OUTDOOR 1 is 15-20 minutes from Falmouth, Truro & Redruth. Option 2 is Helston. How messy is your bag? Do you feel guilt, shame, anxiety or stress when you sneak a peak? Do you self-attack, self-criticise, self-doubt or self-blame? How about we tip out the contents and look together from a perspective of kindness and compassion, no matter what might be inside? Sifting through at your own pace, looking curiously at your 'stuff'. What leads you to emotional unrest & negative thinking and what will bring forth a sense of certainty, self-assurance & positive thoughts.

The ideal client in therapy for me would be someone who is motivated or has hope to change and willing to do the work to make positive changes in their life. My client could be struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and many other mental health difficulties but would be committed to addressing these issues and finding healthier ways of coping or be open to make a little change in their life. Their goals would be to develop self-awareness, improve their mental and emotional well-being and build stronger connections with themselves and others.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
