I am a relational integrative therapist. This means that you and I work in partnership to navigate a way to support you to face whichever challenges you would like to overcome. Sometimes this can be achieved through short-term work (up to 12 weeks) and sometimes a contract for much longer work will be what you need. The development of relationship between me (the therapist), and you (the client) is the driving force of how I work. Through the development of a trusted alliance we can begin to explore any vulnerabilities you bring safely in order to make sense of them together.

I am a fully qualified professional Counsellor who has a range of experience from working with children and young people to adults ranging from 18-60+. I provide a safe environment where you can come and explore any issues or feelings you have, without the fear of being judged or told what to do. I believe we all have the tools to solve our own problems or at least find some acceptance around them; sometimes things are just too hazy and jumbled to see clearly. In my own experience I have found that having the space to explore what is going on with another human being outside your personal life can work wonders. I am not saying I can

Known as Jane Peacock, my trauma informed practice is rooted in the person centred approach, it is non-pathologising and non-judgemental with a belief that it is not what is wrong with a person, it is about what has happened to a person. The sense of connection from human to human is fundamental to all our needs and I endeavour to provide a therapeutic relationship in this space with you, where you are able to feel therapeutically held, heard and validated. Such a relationship would provide a space of compassionate acceptance and allow us to explore those feelings in you which are so hard to access or experience in everyday life.

It can be a great relief to be able to share your worries and stress with someone. We all struggle at times and as much as we would like to talk to our friends or family we feel unable to let them in. Sometimes we feel stuck, alone and not able to find the solution to the problem that's making us unhappy. Being able to talk openly with someone who can support you, without judgement, as you explore your feelings and the circumstances that are causing you stress can make a big difference. You will start to feel in control, see things more clearly and feel more confident to make the changes you want to in your life.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
