I offer a safe space in which you can speak and be listened to without judgement or expectation. As a psychoanalytically informed counsellor, I encourage you to speak about whatever comes to mind and to follow your thoughts wherever they lead. You may have a diagnosis or have your own terms for how you are suffering - we can start there. What we may find is that issues of identity and subjectivity follow - how you see yourself in relation to those around you now or in the past and possibly, in the future....

At times we all feel like we’ve lost hope. The hope that things can improve, the hope our distress will reduce and the hope that we’ll feel less alone. But that hope is never gone for good, and we just need someone to help us find it again. Whether you are struggling with stress, relationship difficulties, past trauma, anxiety, depression or things that you just can’t make sense of, I can help. At times I will guide you, but most importantly I endeavour to support and empower you to take control of your own mental health and instil a renewed sense of hope and emotional wellbeing in a safe and compassionate space.

Explore the causes and solutions to the behaviours that are causing us and those we love harm. Maybe you're a friend or family member of someone suffering from addiction and would like support and guidance on how best to help your loved one? Maybe you've been to treatment for your addiction and wish to continue the work you have started, or you are in long-term recovery and need the support of someone who understands your past. Perhaps you need a therapist that specialises in LGBTQ+ issues.

At some point in life we all need some extra support. A caring and non-judgemental space to feel seen and heard in our experience. Someone to walk alongside us on our journey who is separate from our everyday lives, offering professional guidance & reflection. As a therapist, I aim to offer this in a way that feels congruent and helpful for you. I offer a space for you to process and understand your experience safely. When the world around us can often feel confusing and turbulent, the combination of Psychotherapy and creativity can offer containment, insight and the potential for positive change.

Counselling can help with experiences of anxiety and stress, childhood issues, low self esteem, abuse, trauma, existential difficulties, depression, grief and loss, increasing confidence or any issue where a person needs understanding and support to explore their situation in a non-judgmental space. Therapy can help with personal development and is a way of expanding on and understanding ourselves. I work from an integrative approach and draw influence from a range of therapeutic backgrounds to suit the individual and their situation.

Individuals from all walks of life seek help with many different problems, for example with depression and anxiety, panic states, phobias, obsessional behaviour or angry outbursts. People who turn to psychotherapy may also feel worried in more general ways such as feeling aimless or dissatisfied in their work life, or feeling unable to make satisfactory personal or sexual relationships. With empathy and careful listening my aim is always to help you feel better about yourself and your life, in work or in love.

There are many reasons why people seek time and space to talk and reflect. You might want to talk about thoughts and feelings that are difficult to discuss with others, or consider what has happened to bring you to this point in your life. This can be a space for exploration and discovery, a protected hour in which you will be listened to. My focus is on listening openly, without judgment, to whatever you bring. I will listen to your experiences and your point of view and together we can look at different perspectives which can help you to live more freely.

Psychotherapy can meet our innate need to be heard and deeply understood. Together we can explore your sense of being in the world and process difficult emotions, recurring difficulties or questions. Working with safety and sensitivity we can also process early life experience, past trauma and complex relational dynamics. My holistic approach aims to work with the whole of a person - I work relationally and openly with you to build awareness of psyche, body, memory, energy. As you deepen your understanding of self, you may start to let go of old patterns, restore a sense of balance and begin to build foundations for growth.

Psychotherapy deals with current problems. You may come because of a particular relationship issue or you may not be sure exactly what the problem is but find yourself repeating painful or limiting patterns in life. It may only be through talking to someone that you gain an understanding of what you want to work on. Therapy can be a gradual unfolding process where you have the opportunity to understand how you have become the person you are. This may include talking about how the past has influenced you, exploring your relationships then and now and the way you respond to your life as it is.

This world is a fast-moving, pressured and sometimes, bewildering place. We are expected to navigate it while carrying the heavy weight of the opinions and expectations of others. No wonder that we can become overwhelmed, worried and sad. I can’t (sadly) change the world or your experiences in it, but together, we might be able to find a way for you to move forward, feeling more in control, more confident and hopefully, happier.

Perhaps you: have been feeling out of control of your emotions, like anxiety, panic or low mood have taken the driving wheel; are needing a space to talk through difficult/traumatic life events or bereavement; are looking for a way to re-connect to who you are after feeling lost; or find yourself stuck in relational patterns that are no longer serving you. Whatever your experience is, something I have been struck by through my career is our ability as human beings to heal, to learn new ways of relating to ourselves and to find peace.

I'm Zoë (she/her) and I am a qualified relational and existential counsellor & psychotherapist. Navigating life in 2024 is hard. Dealing with the ongoing unrest in the world alongside our own personal battles can often feel like too much to carry. We can find ourselves going against what we feel is right, pressured by societal expectations and living in a way that feels inauthentic. While therapy alone cannot change the world, it can be a place to share the load, to untangle yourself and make sense of who you are and where you’re going.

I have worked for many years helping my clients to accept themselves for who they are and how they survive in the hidden world that goes on inside their heads, the world where fear holds them back and keeps them stuck. The world we are all familiar with, the place we go when we put our heads on our pillows at night and we know! I believe that through honest exploration, reflection and acceptance of our past, we can start to accept ourselves and begin to build our self-esteem, self respect, our confidence and compassion for ourselves. We can embrace the parts of us that work and let go of the parts that don't, we can change.

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
