I draw on a range of models, including existential therapy and trauma cognitive behavioural therapy.
As a Trauma Neuropsychologist, I have been working with people who experienced trauma in their life, supporting adjustment and coping with the effects of the resulting neurological and health conditions they experience. I have specialised in brain injury and physical trauma rehabilitation and helped clients making sense of what have happened to them and how to be able to meet the values they are no longer able to reach. People who experience anxiety and depression following trauma often get stuck, do not recognise themselves and become unable to find meaning in a life that feels lost to them. A new path needs to be found.

I am a CBT therapist and focus on the beliefs we hold about ourselves, others and the world that might be getting in the way of you living the life you want to.
Hello - if you are struggling with low mood, anxiety or overwhelm I offer empathetic, friendly and professional support. Working together I can help you to develop the attitudes and skills to better manage emotional and life issues. Client quotes: 'My experience of therapy with Karin was positive and enlightening... the strategies and techniques we discussed are still proving invaluable long after my sessions.' ‘The biggest thing I learned is to allow myself to say no to taking on additional commitments without feeling guilty.

I trained in CBT as I too use to suffer the tyranny of my own mind.
Does you best simply never feel enough? Do you worry endlessly about what others think of you? Perhaps you spend days and weeks dwelling on mistakes you've made and your fear you'll always end up a failure? Depression and anxiety will do that to you but the important thing to remember is that these thoughts (however powerful) are just that - thoughts. Thoughts aren't facts and there's no reason you have to fall victim to them anymore.

I'm an integrative therapist and what, you may very rightfully ask, does that actually mean? My training focused on several different humanistic counselling approaches, mainly person centred, Gestalt, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and IFS.
I'm a qualified integrative counsellor and Internal Family Systems therapist. I've had experience in working with a range of issues including anxiety, grief, stress, OCD and low self esteem. Counselling can support you through difficult periods in your life and help in gaining a deeper understanding of yourself. Do you feel stuck? Together, we can work towards your goals. I primarily use Internal Family Systems therapy which you might recognise as parts work, does a part of you feel a certain way but another part feel something else entirely? Do you want to discover a new way of relating to yourself? IFS may be for you.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors
How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.
When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.
How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.
Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
