Hello! A very warm welcome to you. As we face these uncertain times in our world, we find ourselves coming up against many challenges that may be exacerbating our existing internal struggles. It feels more important than ever to find some sense of certainty and purpose in these difficult times. The very idea of isolation can bring on fear and anxiety, uncertainty around our livelihoods can trigger old and new coping strategies that may feel damaging to one’s self.

I am an experientially informed, person centred, psychotherapeutic counsellor with a faith in the human potential to develop in a positive direction. I believe we have our own path to cut through the woods in our unique life journey. The body keeps the score, and we are wiser than we think. I take a non-discriminatory, LGBTQI+ affirmative, experiential, Person Centred approach. I believe neurodiversity is a difference and not a disorder. I take a non-judgemental, relational, holistic approach, alive to all aspects of self and factors outside. For me, it's not about what's wrong with a person, it's about what has happened to them.

Whether you are feeling stuck, anxious, depressed, bereaved or unsure about your emotions, together we can unpack, at your own pace, what’s on your mind in a confidential, safe space. For me, therapy is about making sense of our experiences, the relationship we have with ourselves and with others, the choices we make, and how we can find hope to live the life we truly want.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I draw on a range of approaches, including CBT, trauma-focussed therapies, and family therapies, amongst others. Sessions often involve identifying the patterns that may be keeping problems stuck and helping a person beyond these, towards their values and goals. Sometimes, it might be helpful to focus on the 'here and now'. Other times, I may suggest spending some more time looking back on the past, if you would like, in order to move forward.

At times life can be distressing or leave us feeling less able to cope. Perhaps you feel at odds with yourself; unsure of how to move forward or aware that you don't want to continue feeling as you do now.

In my practice, the therapeutic relationship is a space where difficult life experiences can be worked through. I take an integrative approach, in which I encourage you to be curious about how your difficulties relate to previous experiences and your expectations for yourself and others. This often brings up feelings that can seem unwelcome and I work with you to help you understand unwanted emotions and connect to your body. My approach aims to deepen your self-awareness in the here-and-now as this helps you to understand and feel compassion for yourself, and be okay in who you are.

Sometimes we are in distress or crisis. Maybe our behaviours confuse us or those around us. We may find it hard to be authentically ourselves, or have conflicting desires or feelings. We might be struggling with acceptance of things we cannot change, or struggling with self-acceptance. Maybe we are experiencing issues in our important relationships, or simply want to understand ourselves better. Perhaps we are just struggling with feeling down and/or overwhelmed. Therapy can be a helpful space to start with all of this. By providing a safe environment to explore the things that bother us, or that matter to us most.

Do you feel like something needs to change? Although everyone has their own unique reasons for deciding to see a therapist, most people will be driven by a feeling that something in their life needs to change. Maybe you have been struggling with anxiety or depression, or an addiction or addictive behaviour has started to dominate your days? Perhaps you are struggling to let go of a bad experience from your past? Maybe low self-esteem is limiting your potential? Or it could be that you just don’t feel like ‘you’ anymore…. Whatever you are facing, I can help.

Across 9 years of psychodynamic therapy practice, I have evolved an approach informed by my concurrent practices as artist and gardener: nurturing, growth and transformation infuse our work together, both informing and cultivating the discovery of where and how we can live in ourselves and the world. The work of therapy resides in a space that we cultivate together - a space where meaning can be made or found - it is a place in the clearing. Here, lives and held views can be encouraged to be found, to be heard, and to potentially transform.

I imagine that you are here because life seems particularly tough at the moment. Perhaps you are anxious about the future, or suffering with difficult memories from the past. Perhaps you have realised that the relationship patterns you have developed are no longer working for you and you would like to find a new way of connecting to your partner or others. Perhaps you need some practical guidance with a sex related problem. Wouldn't it be good if a trusted professional, who is also warm and 'real' could help you find a positive way forward?

You may have found the courage to want to change your way of doing life. Whether the issue is specific or a general feeling of dissatisfaction, I believe the therapeutic relationship is created together and can facilitate the changes you want to bring about when created in a safe, open, curious and compassionate environment.
