Hello. I am Emma. The common themes for those seeking help are anxiety, low self confidence and depression, I believe we might not recognise these terms. It is more like you feel life is a struggle with no direction and purpose, or your head feels full of thoughts, and you feel restless. I have success with clients who, in addition to wanting to be better, want to find themselves and understand the world in which they live. This often means working with existential questions; Why am I here? What is the point? I also work with trauma. I support issues with food. I am a trained Mindfulness teacher and this can form part of our work.

It could be that you’ve become stuck worrying about the future, or you’ve got some big stuff in your head that’s getting in the way of moving forwards and it’s time to do something with it so that you can move on. Maybe there is fear and anxiety of making change, or you feel stressed and sad? Or maybe there is some unavoidable unhappiness in that is in the background of your life?

A warm welcome. It is my hope to be a compassionate companion offering you a safe and confidential space where you can be truly heard; where, together, we can gently explore the issues that have brought you here. Maybe you are coping with a bereavement or are having relationship difficulties. Maybe you are struggling with anxiety or depression. Maybe you would like to try and make some sense of an upsetting or traumatic experience. Maybe you can’t quite put your finger on it, but something just doesn’t feel right; you feel a little lost or stuck. Whatever has led you here, therapy can help you make positive changes and live well.

If you are looking for a safe, non-judgemental, welcoming space to explore what life has thrown at you then you have come to the right place. We all need time and a listening ear to help us deal with 'life' at some point. If you want to discover your true self then you have come to the right place. I came to private practice after many years working in post-16 education. In both careers I am privileged to help and be alongside people who are negotiating their next steps.

Experiencing unwanted, anxious feelings that are getting in the way of how you live each day? Unhappy in your closest relationships and looking for more? Questioning your ability to go to work and fulfil the job you're expected to do? Anxious about how you're going to cope with all that's coming your way? Thoughts from things in the past resurface reminding you of things you'd rather forget? Questioning yourself and going over and over what to do, how things could have been different, will life ever be ok again? Life going OK then something happens? Wondering who you can talk to? Who'll have the time to listen? Who can help?

I offer woman-centred, personalised and sensitive support for women who have or are experiencing infertility, miscarriage, a difficult pregnancy, late term loss, a traumatic birth or traumatic postnatal period. The deep emotional wound from these experiences can lead to a downward spiral that impairs your thinking, ability to feel truly happy and live at peace in the moment. But this is not permanent and I can work with you to recover from anxiety, low mood and depression, trauma symptoms, feeling stuck, overwhelm, emotional outbursts or imbalances and relationship struggles with your yourself, partner, child or family.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
