Humanistic Counselling in Braintree
I am a qualified Person Centred Counsellor based in Braintree Essex. Registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I work with adults and young people from 15+ providing a humanistic counselling approach where I adapt the way I work to meet the needs of the individual. In my experience, working in this way allows you to reach a better understanding of yourself and the issues you may be faced with. It can also help to boost your confidence, allowing you to have more trust in your own instincts and decision making.

I use an integrative approach as I do not believe that one style fits all. This means that I will suggest utilising the most appropriate approach according to individual needs and wants. The main approaches I work with, but not limited to, are TA (Transactional Analysis), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Humanistic Therapies. I am also a qualified Europe and UK EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) therapist, a treatment with great success for different types of trauma, PTSD, assaults, rape, phobias, illness, injury, anxiety, self-esteem, stage fright/ performance/ tests and relationship issues.

My counselling approach is Humanistic Integrative, EMDR is a specialised approach working simultaneously on mind, body and emotions, I integrate EMDR within my practice. Counselling and EMDR can offer an opportunity to make sense of the complex emotions impacting on your life. It can enable you to share experiences that others struggle to hear or don’t realise are worrying you. Our development as children, in particular our early relationships help shape us as adults. I have training and experience in Attachment Focused EMDR, an approach to work therapeutically with early losses, relational and developmental trauma.

My clients come with a wide range of different issues. They need their own space to be able to talk to someone who is independent without being judged. My clients goals are to be able to overcome and hopefully resolve their difficulties so they can lead their best life possible. I think clients would like their therapists to focus on specific goals, to help give them structure, and strategies to help them cope with their problems. My goal as a therapist is to enable the client to make critical decisions regarding alternative courses of action without outside influence.

Are you struggling with aspects of your life? You may have already tried to talk about it with friends and family but you still feel unresolved. You might have issues that you feel you can only talk about in a safe and confidential space. There may be times when you feel absolutely fine but there are times when you can't cope from within and you don't understand it. We push difficult issues deep into our unconscious but it still influences our conscious lives. Are there significant events from your childhood that you can't find peace with in your present day? This can leave you feeling despair like you have no control.

Hi I'm Ron I opened my Centre; Independent Therapy Solutions on 1st August 2005 after working at RELATE, GP Surgeries and in the drug and alcohol field. I was a family group conference coordinator for the local health authority too. For a numbers of year's I taught the Diploma in Counselling, briefly at Chelmsford College and then at Life Force in Colchester for a number of years. I am an experienced clinical supervisor for therapists and have my own supervision regularly. I became a counsellor because of life events & my own healing journey, that's not as easy as it sounds, let's say that I have been there, and got the Tshirt.

I try to make therapy as available to as many people as I possible can. The cost of therapy can be quite steep so I keep my prices as low as I can so that more can access it. Therapy is about getting to where you want to be by making your own unique road map, so that you can use it again in the future if need be. I'm an Addiction Psychologist by trade, with 18 years of private practise behind me, but a lot of my work is helping many different age groups with problems such as OCD and PTSD etc. Please feel free to contact me and we can have a chat to see if i can be any help to you.

I'm a bit of a maverick, never been good at following other people's rules. You will find me unlike any counsellor you have dealt with before. I will treat you like a human being and talk to you 'normally' and openly. We will work in a way which best suits you and your needs rather than in any predetermined format.

There are times when we're not OK, when we believe that no one understands our struggles, that we alone should fix them, and things will never change. But it needn't be like this. I specialise in supporting people experiencing anxiety (including social, health, stress, work-place) • low-mood and depression • effects of trauma • low self-esteem • addictions and substance dependency • relationship issues • ADHD • intense emotions. I can help change your limiting thoughts, feelings and behaviours so that you can make sense of your past experiences, find new perspectives, cope with present struggles, and regain your confidence.

Humanistic Counsellors
How does humanistic therapy work?
One tenet of humanistic therapy is that people are good. The humanistic approach is concerned with a person’s ability to accept oneself. It likewise encourages a person to overcome self-criticism and self-defeating tendencies, as well as disapproval from others. This approach also emphasizes self-actualisation and treating an individual as a whole person. A foundation of this therapy type: The patient is the expert in their life, and treatment often takes the individual’s lead.
Is humanistic therapy evidence-based?
Humanistic therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has found that humanistic therapy can lead to significant improvement, and for some people it can be just as effective as other therapies, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy. The benefits of humanistic therapy are enduring.
How long does humanistic therapy last?
The goal of humanistic therapy is to understand a person’s day-to-day experiences. While sessions can be short-term and last over a few months, therapy can sometimes continue beyond that and last up to a year or more. And because patients learn the theory behind humanistic therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.
Is humanistic therapy effective?
According to research, many patients find success with humanistic therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in addressing poor self-esteem and self-sabotage, as well as improving conditions including anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can be long standing, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve learned during treatment.
