Life can be a challenge in all sorts of ways, sometimes we need some independent support finding our way through those challenges. The issues affecting you may be current or things from the past that still impact you. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, loneliness and isolation. Perhaps you have experienced a bereavement, trauma or a life event that you need a safe space to process. Therapy can help you understand what you are feeling and find a way forward.

Feeling stuck is more common than you might think. Your thoughts may be piling up, and it feels like the harder you try to sort them out, the more tangled they become. It's natural to cling on to old stuff because it feels safe or familiar, or perhaps you can't quite pinpoint what's up. These moments often show up disguised as stress, overwhelm, fear, feeling low or as a constant state of anxiety. There might be signs physically and mentally, telling you it's time for something different. You might also be searching for a new playlist for your mind, wondering if it's even possible as everything seems to be stuck on loop.

I have experience working with stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, inner child work, ADHD, PTSD, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, addiction, attachment, relationship issues, parenting, carers, end of life and bereavement.
Hello I'm Clara and thank you for visiting my page. Talking to someone about issues you may be facing can often be difficult, so well done for making that first step. Searching for a counsellor can also prove difficult and it is important to find the right one for you. I believe the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship between you and your counsellor. There are many approaches to counselling and as an Integrative Counsellor I work with several theoretical approaches such as Person Centred, Gestalt, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Transactional Analysis. I also offer creative ways of working.

Hello and welcome. I have particular experience in helping clients who are struggling with a sense of what I call ‘stuckness’, in their life. Are you feeling trapped in a job that doesn’t inspire you to get up every morning? Are you feeling imprisoned in life’s routine and experiencing a sense of emptiness, but are unsure of how to fill that void? Are you quietly asking yourself ‘Who am I?’ You are not alone. I have worked with many individuals with troubles such as these. In a world that seems to be telling us how to look, how to act and even how to feel, it’s no wonder we can find ourselves feeling lost and confused. I can help.

Most of us are taught from an early age that we should hide parts of ourselves to get by. As the person we are pulls away from the person we’re told we should be, we’re left with lingering distress and a struggle to feel truly connected and at home within ourselves. I believe the more we understand, accept and nurture ourselves, the more equipped to find the connection, community and purpose we’re longing for. Perhaps you feel that sense of struggle, or are feeling unmoored from the person you really are. Perhaps you're looking for support as you grow and find your way.

I realise that people coming to counselling – especially for a first meeting – may be feeling anxious so I will aim to be welcoming and put you quickly at ease.
So often in our lives we reach a place where we are struggling in some capacity or another. It may be a deep-rooted issue that goes back to childhood, a past relationship or a trauma. It may be some destructive behaviour such as a form of self-harm or an eating disorder. It may be a negative thought process that is having an impact on our daily life. Whatever the issue, I believe counselling can help. Having a place where we can allow ourselves time and a calm space to think, talk and work things out can be absolutely priceless.

It’s when you sense, or realise, that things can’t remain the same and yet you feel frozen, unable to act, and you don’t know what to do. A personal crisis might leave you feeling powerless and anxious. Then you find that the ways in which you generally deal with problems aren’t working: the people you’d usually turn to for support aren’t enough, they might be too involved with the issues you’re facing. You might also feel unwell. It’s not uncommon to feel anxious, depressed or emotionally fragile. This is when counselling can help. I offer Face to Face, Walk and Talk, Online and Telephone Counselling.

I work with women who don’t feel ‘good enough’ to realise their worth and discover their true confidence. Are you overwhelmed by life? Filled with anxiety and constantly waste your energy worrying you’re not good enough or disappointing people? Maybe you can’t quite put your finger on what the problem is, but you know something isn’t quite right. Perhaps you’ve even lost your sense of who you are. You don’t have to feel like this. When life feels too much, we all need a helping hand. Let me be that helping hand. Together we can work towards confidence, calmness, self-esteem and improved relationships in every area of your life.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
