I help people overcome general stress, anxieties, chronic pain and/or single-incident trauma using EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). I work with all issues, but have a special interest in those related to medical procedures and processes, including pregnancy/adverse birth experiences. We can feel vulnerable, anxious or stressed when we have tests or treatment, diagnoses or long term conditions, and there are many potential triggers when attending healthcare settings. For some people this may result in avoiding healthcare altogether.

Often clients contact me when other therapy has not helped them in the way they had hoped. This is often due to the complexity of difficulties being layered perhaps in a history of trauma. Distress in the body and mind can be triggered by what appears to be something superficial. This can open up the past or come at a time when our emotional resilience is low so this event has a greater impact than it may have done. We can find ourselves not being able to function in our normal way. Many clients often identify as 'good copers' and those who 'just get on with it'. Perhaps we can't now - this is frightening and can derail us.

There is so much focus these days on "What's wrong with you" using terms such as 'depression', 'anxiety', 'disorder', rather than talking about "What happened to you?" Your mental health is much more than just a label or a diagnosis and therapy offers so much more than just talking. It can give you new understanding, new insights, a different perspective, clarity about a problem and the way forward. It can teach you skills to live your life better, teach you more healthy coping strategies or simply give you the space and time for self reflection and a place to find peace of mind.

I'm glad you've taken the first step by coming here to improve your life. I specialise working with people who have experienced traumatic relationships, traumatic attachments, issues of abuse and neglect in a relationship - no matter how big or small this may feel. It may be you were in a relationship where you felt like you were not good enough, other people were gas-lighting you, or you were invalidated or misunderstood. I help people feel confident, develop boundaries, be more assertive, improve their self-esteem after feeling panicked, anxious, or walking on eggshells.

I've been actively practicing as a Therapist for the last 5 years and have always worked with a variety of people from all ages and backgrounds. The youngest being 8 years and the oldest being 84. Many of these clients have lived in different places all over the country. This experience has meant that I have needed to become a different type of Therapist for each client that I work with to ensure that I am able to best support them. This has also meant that I have worked with people for many different reasons and has given me skills to comfortably meet people where they are and work towards their goals in Therapy.

Qualified therapist and supervisor, 12 years' full time experience, bloke, getting on a bit these days, sense of humour, friendly, down to earth, but with the wisdom that comes with age and experience. I will do my best to understand you and support you but I will also challenge you to get out of whatever is keeping you stuck when appropriate! I have a proven track record of reducing distress and suffering and helping people to understand themselves and life.

Through my MSc research in this area, I developed a unique Transpersonal perspective that I also bring to my work.
Hello - I'm Michael Blades, an Integrative, Relational Psychotherapist and full member of the UCKP and member of the BACP (MBACP). I understand how life can leave a lasting impression on how we come to think and feel about ourselves as adults. Psychotherapy can help you change your sense of self and your relationships with others and the world. I often work with motivated and courageous clients who realise they are not just the stories they have come to believe about themselves - and, in time, reconnect with a more profound sense of who they are and have meaning in their lives.

I integrate psychodynamic, Jungian and psychoanalytic practice, focusing on relatedness, the unconscious, and the transpersonal/spiritual.
You may feel you are not getting the most out of your life for reasons known or unknown. I work with the unconscious through dreams and imagery to help you connect more fully with yourself, giving you access to your own deeper needs and desires clearing the way for you to change as you chose. You may need the convenience of working online or via the telephone (F2F not available). Often my way of working appeals to those who are interested in the arts and/or the spiritual realm and those who appreciate deeper ways of working, in safe and supportive relationship.

I'm a transpersonal therapist helping people discover a deep, more enduring essential self that exists beyond the conditioned ego.
Being unable to see a way forward and feeling trapped in your own life can lead to anxiety, stress and depression. I believe trust is the most important thing in therapy, and once established, with your consent, I will be there with you at every step of your journey out of darkness and into a brighter future. Personal therapy will allow you to take stock of your life and start questioning who you are and what you want in order to move towards a better place. Taking that journey through the therapeutic process, you will discover that although life happens out there, it is how we respond to what happens that ultimately defines us.

Transpersonal Counsellors

How does transpersonal therapy work?

Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?

Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?

Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilise the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?

There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
