We are living in a world where we have forgotten how to communicate. Stuck on our phones and in our online world. Are you struggling with the idea that the social contract is broken? Do you feel you have lost your identity, lost your purpose, do you have feelings of being stuck, are life changes affecting you, do you want to know who are you now? Your experiences write your story. Let’s work out how your stories affect your relationships with yourself and others. Who do you want to be? What do you want the rest of your story to say?

Hi, my name is Clare. I am a child and adolescent counsellor using the arts. I take a genuine interest in young people and enjoy engaging with them in an informal approach. Sometimes, young people aren’t able to talk about how they feel. I offer an alternative means of expressing complex or painful experiences that may otherwise be difficult to convey in words alone. It’s vital to offer ways of communicating feelings other than through everyday language, for example, with paint, clay, music, drama or sand play. I will always follow the child’s lead, as my first priority is for the child/young person to feel relaxed and comfortable.

Are you seeking a space to unpack thoughts and feelings which feel hard to voice? Trying to find more capacity to understand and encounter yourself and others more deeply? Therapy offers a confidential space in which you can speak about your life’s journey, as well as what occupies your thoughts today. This can involve exploring the anxieties, relationships, dreams and experiences which are most significant for you. I practice psychoanalytic psychotherapy: this will not give you tools or advice - instead it will help you understand the parts of yourself which may feel hidden, troubling and confusing.

I provide a safe and caring professional counselling and psychotherapy service. I am an empathic and approachable person working in a non-judgemental and confidential way. By exploring your past, the causes of present day problems are often revealed. I’m Sam and I’m a BABCP accredited cognitive behaviour therapist. I support people who are experiencing depression or anxiety, helping them to reach their goals and improve their quality of life. I aim to support clients to have a better understanding of their difficulties and then work collaboratively together to understand how to change the things that are no longer helpful. I believe that therapy works best when people are active participants and I will support people to do this from the beginning to the end of their treatment, with an empathetic and compassionate approach.

My approach to helping my clients with therapy and counselling services, is founded on the principle of Integrative Therapy. This means choosing the practices from different therapeutic modalities best suited to a client’s particular needs and wants. By tailoring the therapy to the individual, I hope to deliver the most meaningful outcomes. Integrative Therapy is not limited to a particular methodology and instead allows me to draw on different techniques as they are required. I work with a number of forms of therapy and personalise the approach to meet the types of challenges you may be facing.

Hello. We all have periods in our lives when we experience challenges that impact us emotionally. Past trauma, recent loss or life adjustment, interpersonal conflict, physical ill health or change in social circumstances, for example, can test our psychological coping. We can be left with difficult emotions that overwhelm us and impact on our functioning, sense of self and general outlook. You may be looking for a space for reflection, or wish to work towards specific behavioural goals. Whether your distress is based on the past, present or future, psychological therapy can offer you an opportunity for change and growth.

The protective power of arts in health and mental health has been with us for millennia and today is evidence based. Daily life's emotional demands often go unnoticed and coping with anger, fear and sadness is socially accepted to happen in silence. Nourishing and protecting our mental health can get easily neglected. Although family and friends can play a wonderful supportive role in times of need they may not be enough in times of crisis. Making the choice to look after our mental health is our first step to personal growth. Making art is creative and fun. Being part of a supportive and safe group is therapeutic.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
