You might be looking into therapy because a specific issue is causing you difficulty, pain or suffering. Alternatively, perhaps it’s a more general sense of unease, distress or conflict you're facing. A sense that 'something isn't quite right'. Maybe you want deeper understanding; that of yourself, as well as your relating with others and the world around you. Whatever you bring, I'll do my utmost to 'walk alongside you' in understanding, exploration and support. As a Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I provide a relational psychotherapeutic space. Inviting a deeper awareness, fuller experiencing, sense and meaning-making.

Welcome, I am Lee. I can offer you a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to talk about your thoughts and feelings. I work with clients for either short or longer term counselling/therapy. I work collaboratively to identify the areas of your life that are troubling or distressing you, agreeing the focus of therapy together. Many people come to therapy simply to learn more about themselves and understand past distressing experiences. I hope therapy will bring you greater awareness, spontaneity and increased intimacy.

All people, have the basic expectations and the desire to be listened to, understood, and helped. This is not always common. However this is exactly what I offer in a calm, genuine way. I help with addictions and neurodiversity in its may forms. Addiction and neurodiversity can be linked or seen individually. Using one to help with the other is common. I have personal experience with these difficulties and understand them at my core. There are difficulties that underlie each and every one of us. Some are very obvious and some we hide hoping no one will notice. This can be very tiring and eventually a huge burden that we carry.

At times life can seem tough. Maybe you feel like you’re stuck in a rut or that you’re lacking purpose. Perhaps something has happened, everything has changed but you weren’t quite ready. It feels difficult reaching out to those around you; especially when you’re left feeling frustrated, unheard, and misunderstood. You don’t have to cope all by yourself; it’s normal to feel this way sometimes, and it’s OK to ask for help. Hello and welcome. I’m Ed and I can help you to explore the issues that impact your ability to live and enjoy your life to the fullest, in the hopes that you can begin to have more better days.

The demands of everyday life can be difficult to deal with for all of us at times. Talking about your psychological health with someone who is comfortable and familiar with such issues, who can listen without judgement and who is trained to help you overcome such difficulties, may be a helpful step forward. As a registered psychologist, I am trained to help people with their psychological health using a range of approaches to treatment. I often use a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) approach to treatment, as it is an evidenced based approach that is well supported by research as being effective with a wide range of concerns.

The terminology of therapy is often confusing, but the way I work means that: although whatever has brought you to therapy is manifesting itself in your day to day life, behaviours, thoughts and feelings, I believe that it's roots could be in your past, possibly as far back as early childhood. Perhaps you are feeling anxious, or are experiencing low mood. Maybe you have experienced a trauma, or are dealing with a lot of stress. You might have suffered a loss, or simply feel that something isn't quite right, and that you need some help and support.

My way of working is based on our relationship, rather than any specific theoretical model. It is through our relationship that we explore your experience, your feelings, needs and wants in a non-judgemental, contained space. Through our work together it is my hope that clients develop a better understanding of themselves and leave with an increased level of confidence that comes from acceptance.

I work with couples and individuals in person, and via Zoom/Skype. I have specialist training in couples therapy. All couples come together with high hopes. And a satisfying relationship is key to happiness. Yet all relationships do face challenges. For example, has communication broken down or stopped? Do conversations turn into arguments? Are you feeling unheard, unwanted and alone? Or are you feeling boxed-in and overwhelmed? Are there trust issues? Has someone had an affair? Is there conflict around your sex-life, fertility issues, parenting etc? Whatever your situation, your relationship is important to you, and deserves help.

If you have arrived at this page it is most likely that there is something in your life that does not feel right. Let me acknowledge your courage to reach out for help as this shows that you have awareness of your need for change. My belief is that we must get our true needs met before we can effectively help others with their needs. It is perfectly normal for people to struggle at different stages of their lives – most of us do – but these struggles may make us feel very lonely and isolated. My interest is to treat you as a valuable individual and to help you manage your unique issues.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
