Hi , I'm Warren. I help people experiencing anxiety or depression or those that want to make changes to their life (at home or at work) but don't know how to start. People I work with will often be struggling with low esteem that affects their ability to live the life they want to live and make the decisions that they want to make. I help people with debilitating phobias or those who have suffered trauma and I support them to reach the goals they set to achieve the freedom they want. Check out my website at www.warrenfoottherapy.com and please don't hesitate to send me a message or give me a call.

Is life overwhelming or getting you down right now? Or perhaps you have felt this way for a long time. Maybe you're struggling with painful feelings like jealousy, anger or guilt. Or you're struggling with anxiety or depression and you're not sure what's causing it. Perhaps you are struggling with low self-esteem or relationship difficulties. It's hard to know who to turn to sometimes because of feelings of shame, or feeling like a burden. Whatever is troubling you it seems you have made that first step to seeking the right help.

Are you feeling sad, lost or fearful? Are you dealing with relationship issues, a traumatic event or might not know why you feel unhappy, and need help to move forward in a safe space? You may want to explore and work on yourself, in a non-judgmental environment, or want to talk about difficult issues with someone you feel comfortable talking to. Some years ago, I went on my own journey through therapy, which helped me to understand the process of counselling, and value of being in a safe space with someone who showed me genuineness, acceptance, and empathy, which is what I aim to provide for my clients.

Hello, have you been wondering what it might be like to talk to a counsellor? To be really listened to? How might I help you? Everybody has problems, but for some working through them is more challenging than for others; perhaps because of an early childhood experience, trauma, a relationship problem, or a feeling of sadness that might feel too hard or frightening to unpack alone. I can help. It’s ok not to be ok, but you don’t have to be alone with your struggle. Counselling will help you make meaning of how and why you are feeling the way you do and enable you to move forward with resilience and confidence, please get in touch.

Waitlist for new clients
Throughout our lives, we are often confronted with experiences and/or difficulties that challenge us. Sometimes, these challenges can leave us struggling and in need of a space in which we we can safely explore, understand, and learn how to overcome these issues. Through careful exploration, not only is it possible to learn how to overcome these challenges, we can also begin to understand how they can in fact offer us new opportunities to learn and grow. I take a open and collaborative approach to therapy and am keen to support you with any challenges you are facing

I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with the BABCP.My skills, interests and experience are primarily in eating disorders, depression and anxiety disorders. It is not unusual to feel lost and stuck in your illness, and it can feel anxiety provoking and frightening when initially asking for help. You may feel conflicted about letting go of your illness as you may find it helps and protects you at times - this is not uncommon - and we will spend some time at the start of therapy understanding what is keeping you stuck and working through some of these conflicting feelings in order to decide together the best ways to move

You may or may not know in advance what the source of your difficulties may be. Part of our process is to explore together what has led you here. Every person is different. Amid the stresses of daily life, it’s easy to lose touch with our own deepest needs and feelings – until they become too painful or persistent to ignore.

Self-Harming Counsellors

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behaviour therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
