I am an accredited, fully insured therapeutic counsellor having studied Transactional Analysis psychotherapy, based in East Sussex; working with adults on a one-to-one basis, either in-person or on-line. I have a corporate background which compliments my work and provides context to some of the challenges my clients face. This mixture of experience allows me to better understand the struggles of how our 'public face' can often feel at odds with our inner world and of the pressures and expectations of self and others that often feel overwhelming.

Please note that I work specifically with people of any age in the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as family members or those exploring their identity. I am a Clinical Psychologist with specific skills in trauma, emotional dysregulation, unusual experiences (e.g. psychosis), anxiety disorders and depression. I am experienced at working with neurodiversity. I am person-centred and try to work anti-oppressively, meaning that I think with people about injustice they may have experienced and how that might have impacted them, as part of our therapy. I work integratively, meaning that I draw on many different models as a therapist.

Life can be complex and challenging at times. We may feel anxious, sad, lost or overwhelmed by our relationship, work, loss of a loved one, lack of confidence or low self-worth. We may find ourselves struggling with depression, insecurity, lack of sleep, infidelity, shame, infertility and we lose hope that we'll ever feel differently again. It's at times like these that you may have wondered how psychotherapy can help you. You may feel nervous about seeking help, which is quite normal. However, you'll find a relaxed and warm atmosphere while working with me.

Hello, I am Claudia and I am a bereavement specialist who understands the profound impact of grief. The deep sense of loss that it brings can be incredibly isolating and can cause powerful emotions such as guilt and regret to become part of your everyday life. Maybe grief is affecting your relationships, work, health and sense of hope for the future. You might be consumed by thoughts of the person who has died - or maybe you are struggling to sleep and eat well. These are all issues that clients commonly bring to sessions. We can explore any aspect of your loss that you wish to discuss. We can find a way through this together.

Therapy is a unique and powerful undertaking that can change how you see yourself in the world. It can also be a playful and creative way to recover aspects of yourself that have been hidden, rejected or disallowed. I work with individuals who wish to explore their life and what they want it to be, or who are experiencing problems with relationships, anxiety, depression, illness, work or bereavement. I have a particular interest in working with dreams and creativity, both of which can be a means of tapping into inner processes and potential.

Jungian psychotherapy, sometimes known as depth psychology, is a form of deep reflection. It isn't problem centred but it does help to resolve deep rooted problems. The things that affect our waking life may be hidden from consciousness and experienced as a bewildering array of symptoms that appear to have no obvious cause. To complicate matters, these symptoms may be emotional, psychological or physical. Jung viewed symptoms not as problems to be fixed, but as signposts pointing to the need for change. I work on the basis that our minds and bodies have a natural drive towards healing.

Life can become overwhelming at times. Sometimes there is a specific event or sometimes there can be general feelings of anxiety or depression, especially following the pandemic and these times of global uncertainty. Talking therapy can help to get to the heart of those fears, and uncover patterns of behaviour or thinking. I can be a witness to your story and guide you towards a more grounded sense of yourself. I aim to walk alongside my clients as we explore their world. Finding a therapist can be overwhelming, but the best way forward is for us to meet and take it from there.

When growing up and later in life we develop various coping mechanisms, which allow us to function and get on with our lives. However, our life circumstances change and we also keep changing but sometimes we continue to use the same coping mechanisms, which instead of helping us, become barriers to our development and self-fulfilment. Our inner discourse may become stuck in rigid views of ourselves, we can repeat unhelpful patterns of behaviour and become unable to escape our daily mental confinements. We live in a very fast-paced society, which through its competitiveness pushes us to be better and more efficient every day.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
