I am an integrative practitioner, meaning I lean on and merge varying therapeutic modalities such psychodynamic, CBT, and systemic theories.
Life is inevitably filled with many challenges and transitions and it’s not unusual to become overwhelmed. We can easily struggle with who we are and what we want from life. Maybe you're experiencing the breakdown of a relationship with a loved one, you’ve lost your job, just become a parent, received a diagnosis, started university, or maybe you’re just struggling with the idea of making a change in your life. Therapy can help you understand yourself better so that you can confidently adjust to change, set boundaries, navigate relationships, implement coping strategies & give yourself grace if you stumble.

As a clinical psychologist, I am trained in multiple evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and narrative exposure therapy (NET).
I'm a clinical psychologist with over 10 years' experience in a range of NHS mental health services. I currently offer a small amount of private practice alongside my NHS role. I offer sessions online and in person. I work with adults with a broad range of difficulties. This includes those wanting to reduce symptoms associated with a particular difficulty, like anxiety, PTSD or OCD. It also includes those wanting to better understand their relationship with themselves and others, or figure out why they keep falling into unhelpful patterns. On first contact, we will discuss what you would like to get out of therapy and go from there.

I specialise in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) which has been shown to help in a range of situations, such as anxiety and depression.
We all are subject to emotions like low moods, worries and frustrations; it’s all part of being human, the brain we inherit and the effect of our environment. However, when these emotions turn chronic, exaggerated and persistent, we suffer from situations like depression, anxiety and anger, which impact on our lives and well-being. These emotions spill over, adversely affecting our goals and relationships at home and at work

Although person-centred at heart, I integrate my practice with cognitive behavioural therapy, guiding clients through the process of identifying and challenging unhelpful thought patterns, beliefs and behaviours that can harm emotional well-being.
I have a genuine passion for helping my clients overcome emotional difficulties, and to achieve personal growth and fulfilment. Our counselling sessions will provide a safe, supportive and confidential environment to help guide you on this journey. My approach is based on the importance of creating a supportive therapeutic relationship where clients feel respected, safe and able to explore their emotions. A holistic approach, exploring the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviours, allowing a deeper understanding of self, and the ability to navigate life's challenges with new-found resilience.

I originally trained in CBT but have specialised now in EMDR, Schema Therapy, and integrate Internal Family Systems to focus on the attachment relationship with clients, helping them see that they are not a problem but that there are just different parts of them trying to cope with what they have experienced in life.
Are you struggling with anxiety or low mood, relationships with others, or have you experienced traumatic events in childhood or as an adult which are impacting you now? Have you experienced therapy where you felt your needs were not adequately met or you were being "fitted into a box? Did therapy just focus on the here and now? CBT can be a very successful therapy but in some services it can leave people feeling like they are failing and not focusing on what they want to. I believe that the therapeutic relationship and feeling safe in therapy is essential for progress and this is at the centre of my work.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Counselling are ways of helping you manage your mental and emotional health.
It can be difficult to know where to start when feeling depressed or anxious. I appreciate that many people become a little anxious at the prospect of an intense atmosphere in a counselling room. Thats not how I work though. My first aim is to help you relax. To see that yes, it is a 'safe and confidential environment for you to talk about anything that you want'. But there's no need for it to be a heavy and intense atmosphere either. I believe we can be practical, pragmatic and make some real changes without sacrificing empathy or compassion. I have over 20 years experience.

As a CBT specialist, my role is to help you develop the necessary emotional resiliency through understanding and practical skills.
I work with clients who typically feel emotionally trapped, oscillating between extremes. For instance, a client with fragile confidence or who struggles with anxiety and shame might isolate themselves socially or avoid taking risks in their career in an attempt to find relief. As their lives feel more restricted, they may have a strong urge to escape the way they feel by further isolating or making drastic changes. Clients seek therapy to break these unhelpful patterns, develop trust in their supportive inner voice, and find more meaningful than reactive change.

Choosing a therapist can be a stressful process, and it's difficult to decide which kind of therapy to try. Many people find it helpful to work with a therapist who has trained in more than one therapy, who can switch to a different therapy when needed, and who can tailor sessions according to your needs. You can have a phone consultation with me to discuss what you are looking for and ask questions. 16 years experience in supporting neurodivergent clients (with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia or other difficulties) led me to further training in autism, and specialised CBT and ACT for ADHD and emotional regulation problems.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors
How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.
When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.
How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.
Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
