I am an Integrative Counsellor, this means that I can alter my way of working to better suit my client's personal needs. Working this way means that I can bring different skills and theories into session that I feel my client may benefit from rather sticking to just one counselling theory. I believe that a counselling journey needs to as unique as the person embarking on it. The aim of my counselling service is to help people work towards a brighter future, one step at a time. When working on your mental health, people think of this long scary process, what I aim to do is break this journey down into steps, keeping you in control.

You may be struggling to manage your worries, thoughts and feelings or behaviours, possibly as a result of a crisis such as a bereavement, loss of a job or difficulties in a relationship. You might feel you are lacking in confidence, that life is getting on top of you and you'd like someone to talk to...someone who will also support you to manage those difficult feelings and help you to find ways to feel better.

Art therapy enabled me to process my own past traumas, it has given me the empathy and determination to help others to see more clearly what is going on for them in the present, often through gaining a better understanding of their past. I work mostly with adolescents (aged 12-25), and primary/junior school children. Helping them to process issues such as anxiety, bullying, stress, identity, behavioural issues, grief and bereavement.

Are you trying to make sense of your life right now, and don't understand what's happening or why you're not coping so well with every day life? Perhaps you feel alone from a loss or breakdown of a relationship. There could be events from your past that interfere in your life today, do you wish to explore and understand why this is happening? Maybe your emotions are becoming increasingly difficult to cope with. Are you finding your relationship with family or friends difficult or strained or perhaps you'd like to feel more confident. These are some of the challenges we face and perhaps you would like some help to overcome these.

Life can be challenging and sometimes stressful situations, thoughts and feelings may stop us from doing the things we enjoy. We may be feeling anxious, depressed or just overwhelmed and want to change that but do not know how. I believe that having a regular opportunity to be heard, understood and process our emotions helps us to build a better understanding and greater awareness of our situation.

Hello, I'm Lauren! I often work with children and families through creative expression. I have experience working with individuals with communication difficulties, additional needs, autism and learning disabilities. Adults can benefit through being playful in art therapy, which allows you to learn more about yourself through metaphor and symbolism. My approach is psychodynamic which assumes our present behaviour is based upon our previous experiences. I aim to support my clients to understand themselves better and discover the reasoning behind certain behaviours.

Finally, our last step in helping you gain a positive, confident and happier future, is to discover your deepest root causes, which created the very first trigger(s). To put it simply, our driving force from day one is to help you quickly ensure you gain much improved: thinking, feeling and behaviour.

Clients contact me when they have anxiety, panic attacks, grief and questions of themselves.Sometimes trauma and low self esteem can cause people to seek help.I also find life transitions are the catalyst for seeking help. Talking to me in a safe, unjudged safe space can provide the answers to unpick a lifetimes hurt and shame. Working through the jumble of memories, people who have caused you harm and spoken critical words takes its toll and won’t go away by just ignoring it. Our own self criticism can eat away at the successes. I can help you make sense of it and move forward with your life’s goals that you deserve finally.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
