I practise from a psychodynamic perspective which has its roots in psychoanalysis, the founding approach to talking therapy. This means I am interested in helping people to be curious about themselves, to understand why they might think, feel or behave in certain ways which are often unconscious, and to understand where these patterns might come from. This involves you and I building up a trusting relationship that would enable you to bring anything (thoughts feelings, fantasies), however unusual or nonsensical, you want to talk about with me.

I have worked with people through a broad range of difficulties including generalised anxiety disorder, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, all types of abuse, family issues, personality disorders and bereavement.
If you are reading this there is a chance that you (or someone you know) may be experiencing some emotional difficulties. In my personal experience, counselling and psychotherapy can help with a wide range of problems related to life and living. Many of us don't know why we feel unhappy, lacking in confidence or generally anxious. Some experience anxiety in relation to situations where other people seem to cope without a problem. Sitting down with a trained therapist can help alleviate distress as well as uncover the self-defeating patterns we may have stumbled into as a consequence of life's events.

If you are depressed or anxious I can work with you as an individual but if you are in a relationship, working with you and your partner can be very effective.
Are you feeling upset or anxious about a relationship that is not working for you? You may have tried to make it better but so far nothing much has changed. Maybe you are feeling depressed and can’t seem to find a way out. Perhaps you have left a relationship and feel the need to understand what went wrong. At some point in our lives most people will feel they need help. Working with a counsellor can help understand the causes of distress and learn techniques to help see things differently, regain control, feel stronger and happier, and move forward to a better place.

I offer the highest professional standards in confidentiality and integrity and believe that the therapy relationship can help you make impactful and long-lasting change in your life.
"Sometimes you don't realise the weight of something you've been carrying until you feel the weight of its release." Anon. At times, we all need to talk but may struggle to find the right person to turn to. Those closest to us may not always be able to offer what we need. This is where therapy may be helpful. Someone to listen to you without passing judgement or giving advice; someone who believes you know best what you need and who can provide you with a safe, confidential place to explore those needs.

Entering counselling for the first time can fill you with worries and anxiety. It is important for me to create a setting so anxiety begins to ease, enabling exploration to occur. I would like to offer you a safe, warm, non judgemental space to provide security that is needed for exploration that we can take together. To have a trusting relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to bring about positive change and to be understood is to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships and your past experiences.

Areas of specialism include helping people suffering from anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties (difficulty in establishing and maintaining relationships).
At times, our experiences and emotions can feel overwhelming. This can impact us physically, emotionally as well as psychologically. Over time, this can have consequences for our day to day lives, relationships and work. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can provide an important, safe, confidential space to gain insight of our ourselves, our experiences and our difficulties. This can involve receiving help to identify, and work through, the underlying events, relationships, beliefs and fears which may be causing destructive patterns as well as feelings of being stuck, frustrated, lost and empty.

Relationship Issues Counsellors
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
