Since qualifying I worked with Victim Support, I found myself specialising in Domestic Abuse, Historic Childhood Abuse & associated trauma, recently I completed a year of working with an alcohol addiction charity which has given me further insight and empathy.
Counselling & coaching that puts you back in control. A warm, calm safe place to help clients move life from beige back into colour with coping mechanisms for the short term and create mind space to work out the longer term issues, solutions that last a life time. Therapy needs to be, genuine, practicable and comfortable for the relationship between client and therapist to have value or efficacy. My own life experience has given me genuine empathy with client's issues and training and my own therapy has helped me accept my past and leave it there.

I know how it feels. I’ve trawled these sites looking for something that stands out, someone a bit different. Someone real. Feeling lost, feeling alone, feeling so down. Wanting to find that person I could, just perhaps, take a leap of faith with. I won’t promise I’ve been exactly where you are or where you’ve been, because I can’t. Nobody can. As humans we are all unique; each of us is a special, individual creature.

Are you feeling low? Anxious? Questioning your worth for others and yourself? Feeling isolated irrespective of your social and community connections? You are not alone. Whilst battling these internal conflicts can leave you feeling alienated, and somewhat of a black sheep, my experiences, both professionally and personally, suggest that these are universal of human living. I have worked with a range of such experiences, including depression, suicide ideation, domestic violence, racial identity and various LGBTQ+ issues, including gender identity and expression and sexuality.

Do you often feel sad, nervous or worthless? Do you wonder if you matter to anyone or to yourself? Do you feel lonely even when you have friends or family around you? Or do you feel haunted by something in your past? You are not alone. Many people face these inner struggles, and they can make you feel like you don't belong anywhere but I have learned, both from my work and my own life, that these challenges are part of being human. Life can be overwhelming at times, we may face problems like anxiety, depression, grief, self-worth, relationships or trauma. this can be too hard to cope with and we may need some help.

You are brave and have identified that you need some support at this very turbulent time. When a crisis hits, a future that was once clear can become confusing and scary. Life is now very complicated and can leave us with feelings of anxiety, stress and depression. These negative feelings can make life overwhelming. Sometimes it is helpful to talk to a person not directly involved in order to gain clarity and insight.

I work with individuals and with groups, offering a 'safe' environment, one which is welcoming, respectful, warm, accepting and non-judgemental. So often in current times, it can feel as if we are 'functions' as opposed to feeling, thinking human beings so it is important to me that you are able to be and feel heard and valued. I offer both talking and person-centred art therapies, in individual or group settings. I also offer integrative clinical supervision. Mindfulness tuition is also available. Both daytime and evening appointments are available.

It can feel hard enough ordinarily, dealing with anxiety, stress and things we find difficult. And in recent times extra-ordinary pressures may have added to your concerns or dilemmas. The idea of seeing a therapist may seem daunting, but doing so allows you to explore and reflect on those aspects of life you're worried or unhappy about, rather than trying to work it all out on your own, in confusion, overwhelm or isolation. Let me support you, helping you find ways to be more connected to your inner strength, resillience and potential.

I am passionate in helping people find a happier way of being with greater fulfilment in their life. Whatever is causing you difficulty, I believe that things can be different for you. You may feel any mix of feelings that impact your life and relationships negatively. Any are valid and, I feel, are a communication to what may be going on within. I offer compassion and understanding without any judgement in a space in which we can truly get to know what is difficult. In this space we can gently explore anything that troubles you so that we may work through any issues together, no matter how big or small you feel it is.

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
