My first question is, almost always, 'What brings you to me, and why now? What happened?' This shows me what you are looking for: the answer to what you need to change in yourself, your behaviour, your relationships, your relationship with hope: where has it gone? Your trust, in yourself, in someone close to you, in life or fate - where has your trust gone? Where has your ability to be happy gone? This work is all about helping me understand the story you have been telling yourself for too long that does not work any more, that needs a good editor which is where I come in, to help you re-write the Story of You.
What is my speciality? What do I offer? On top of all the normal standard requirements of counselling or therapy like offering a safe, non-judgemental space and a good listening ear? Well, I also bring to the sessions a wisdom learned from age and life experience: my own personal journey on which I have learned about navigating life's rougher territory.
