Anger Management Counselling in Bristol
I am particularly interested in anger, rage, anxiety and depression.
Psychotherapy deals with current problems. You may come because of a particular relationship issue or you may not be sure exactly what the problem is but find yourself repeating painful or limiting patterns in life. It may only be through talking to someone that you gain an understanding of what you want to work on. Therapy can be a gradual unfolding process where you have the opportunity to understand how you have become the person you are. This may include talking about how the past has influenced you, exploring your relationships then and now and the way you respond to your life as it is.

I am currently offering in person, online video and telephone counselling by appointment. If you are currently looking for a counsellor it may well be that you have reached a point of change. You can no longer put up with the current situation you feel you are in. You may be suffering anxious feelings or low mood, or be struggling with anger and frustration, or any number of other concerns. These are feelings that we all experience from time to time, but they can be limiting and have an effect on our general happiness and satisfaction with life.

Hello, I'm Jenny, an accredited CBT/REBT therapist based in Bristol. I offer my clients a combination of a compassionate, respectful and non-judgmental space in which to share their experiences and problems, and an approach to therapy that is focused on equipping them to achieve their goals. I'm a big believer in people’s ability to change their own situations, so I see my job as being to help my clients see the power and agency they have over how they experience their lives, where many feel stuck, helpless, or like 'victims of circumstance'. I'm especially interested in working with anxiety, phobias, and anger.

I've been conducting therapies with adults and adolescents both Turkish and English. I mostly use CBT and Mindfulness to help my clients. I work on anxiety, depression, anger management, social anxiety, health anxiety, relationship problems as well as other mental health problems. When necessary, I use Solution Focused Therapy techniques which help patients to see their strong sides to achieve the desired goals and some Art Therapy techniques so that my clients can open up easier and see the things they are not aware of.

At the other end of the spectrum you may be finding that every day is a real struggle with strong, even overwhelming, feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, anger etc. I believe that all of us want to strive to feel happier and more fulfilled than we currently are. We want to feel a connection with other people and to have a sense that we are leading meaningful, enjoyable lives - even when at times we feel at a loss as to how to achieve this.

Whether it’s anger, bereavement, bullying, life having no purpose, low-self esteem, the menopause, personal development, redundancy or retirement.
Counselling and psychotherapy is about you: your concerns, and your wellbeing. We can talk about me, and what clients say about me later. But for now, let's establish how you can benefit from professional support...... Does any of this sound like you? "I want to reduce stress" "I feel anxious all the time" "I wish I was more confident and less critical about myself " "I want to feel optimistic instead of negative all the time" ...Or perhaps you want some direction in life, become more productive or improve your relationships?

The focus of my work has been to support those struggling with identity crises, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and feelings of shame and anger.
Life can throw so many different challenges at us. We live in a world that is constantly changing. Often we spend more time at work than with our loved ones. We're facing a Cost of Living Crisis and a Climate Breakdown. If you're feeling worried, disconnected or find yourself struggling then I am here to tell you that this is totally normal! My approach is warm, thoughtful and down-to-earth. Whatever is going on for you, I offer a safe space where you can feel heard and held. I am here to listen to the experiences which have led you to see me and I do this with compassion, empathy and acceptance.

I have experience of working with a wide-range of differing psycho-emotive (grief, anger, sadness, hopelessness) and behavioural problems (aggression, addictions, relationship issues), sexual difficulties and trauma.
I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of experience working with adults in both NHS and private practice settings. Crises are often important moments in our lives that signify the need to make changes. These times can indicate that old ways of coping or patterns in relationships and behaviour are now no longer working. I offer a non-judgemental reflective space in which to support individuals to increase understanding and insight into their difficulties and to identify the changes they wish to make. I have been trained in a number of therapeutic modalities which I integrate and tailor to each individual.

Anger/emotion regulation.
Sometimes difficulties can have a major impact on our well-being, relationships or work. Maybe friends and family can offer some support but we may also choose to see a qualified and experienced practitioner, who can provide a safe space in which to work with whatever is going on for us. I have a wide range of experience, including working in the NHS, at university as Associate Lecturer (14 years) and in a GP practice as a Lead Therapist and Supervisor, delivering Relational Integrative Therapy. I draw on Psychodynamic and Person-Centred approaches, relational CBT and CFT (Compassion-Focussed Therapy).

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
