About

Steven Quartz, Ph.D., researches problems at the intersection of neuroscience and philosophy, such as how we make moral decisions, why we save for our future self, and why we fight over clashing values. Utilizing an array of methods including functional brain imaging and computational models, his research has made a number of fundamental contributions to the emerging area of neuroeconomics, including how the brain represents risk and reward, the brain basis of trust and cooperation, how traders learn from stock market activity, and the brain's sense of fairness. He is particularly interested in how brain science can (and cannot) inform social policy.
