Nathan Filer is an award-winning author, a qualified mental health nurse, and co-lead of the Research Centre for Mental Health, Wellbeing and Creativity at Bath Spa University. His novel, The Shock of the Fall, tells the story of a young man grieving the loss of his brother. It won the Costa Book of the Year, the Betty Trask Prize, the National Book Award for Popular Fiction, and the Writers’ Guild Award for Best First Novel. His non-fiction book, The Heartland (also published as This Book Will Change Your Mind About Mental Health), was a Sunday Times Book of the Year and longlisted for the Rathbones Folio Prize. He has written for The Guardian, The New York Times, HuffPost, and BBC Radio.
