Dogs, Homeless People, and Love: A Picture Is Worth Many Many Words

Soon after I posted my essay about the wonderful Australian movie called Red Dog I received an email sending me to a website that contained beautiful and very moving pictures of homeless people and their canine companions. More photos such as these can be found here. I'd also recently written about the science of love, noting that of course nonhumans can and do fall in love and that we can learn a lot about love from our nonhuman friends.

The photos to which I refer above show clearly that dogs are indeed our best friends. They're able to love with no or very few holds barred, and bring much joy to those who are down on their luck. We should embrace and celebrate their presence in our lives and their willingness to freely and openly share love.
