After I completed my own healing from grief and trauma, it became my heart's mission to serve others as they sought healing through professional therapy.
I strive to build meaningful therapeutic relationships based on compassion, empathy and trust. I specialize in therapy with children 10+, youth, and adults who are experiencing symptoms of trauma, grief and loss, anxiety and depression. I work collaboratively with clients and their support network to promote positive growth and change. I recognize that personal growth is challenging and can feel daunting at times. My goal is to create a safe, confidential environment to explore individual strengths, resiliencies and wisdom, and to guide clients on their journey toward healing.

Trauma and loss are inescapable in life, does not discriminate, significantly impacts individual well-being, and emerges in different symptoms and difficulties.
“A different therapy must be constructed for each client because each has a unique story.” – Irvin D. Yalom. I believe everybody’s story deserves to be heard, and we all have the intrinsic capacity to heal and change. Your presenting concern is as unique as your fingerprint influencing thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Our connections between yesterday and today are roots to be used as foundations to explore new possibilities, personal growth, wisdom and a deeper appreciation of self and others.

Helping people navigate life's complexities, reconnect with meaning, and find language for their experiences are passions for Kristi-Anna. She is sincere, down-to-earth, and a careful listener. Trauma, depression, cancer (patients & family members), grief, navigating change, and making sense of the past and present are areas she often works with. She also helps people who are contemplating whether or not to remain in present situations, including relationships, jobs, and educational trajectories, where people can sometimes feel stuck, constricted, or on auto-pilot. Her approach is humanistic, trauma-sensitive, and non-pathologizing.

Life is filled with very few certainties, but we can be certain that life will always change. Sometimes that change is big and explosive, while other times change happens so slowly that we barely notice it. Sometimes we seek that change for ourselves and other times that change can be thrust upon us. However you find yourself in relationship with the notorious thing called change, please know that you are not alone and that you can and will get through this.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
