My training has included models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness and Prolonged Exposure Therapy.
"Your spark can become a flame and change everything" Hi, I'm Tiffany Petite. I am an evidence based - practitioner who has extensive training and experience in counselling. Have you been stuck in a rut that you can’t get out of? The more you procrastinate the harder it is to achieve your goal to the point you start questioning yourself. This leads to self judgement, shame and blame. Change starts with a single point of action. If things are not going as planned, you are shifting the tide today. I would like to help you facilitate the change you are looking for.

Over the past ten years I have worked in various psychological environments including secure mental health facilities, hospitals, schools, and private practice settings. My personal experiences with debilitating anxiety, depression, and ADHD over the years ultimately led to my decision to become a clinical psychologist. Experiencing these conditions first hand and personally utilizing their various treatment methods, adds an additional layer of expertise and understanding that surpasses what can be learned from a textbook or classroom setting.

Collectively, our mental health has never been a bigger priority than now. For many of us, our foundation of coping has been shaken to the core. We are trying to find ways of navigating through difficult emotions, sensations, urges, thoughts and relationship issues that may be bubbling up and overflowing on the surface. With these difficulties, we might find ourselves coping in extremes, like a swinging pendulum: either trying to over-control our situation, or, perhaps, losing control entirely. I would love to support you in resolving these difficulties, slowing down the pendulum, and hopefully finding a 'middle path'.

Do you feel like you are living in misalignment with the things you care about? That you're living with unmet potential and spend time focusing on things that don't match your values? At work or in your relationships, this could be showing up as a big sense of distraction — even though you’re doing so much, it seems like you’re getting nowhere. You have high hopes and big dreams, but feel disconnected and stuck. Something might feel “off” and it’s hard for you to feel motivated to keep going through motions without procrastinating and delaying. I work with clients to improve their overall performance and life satisfaction.

Welcome! Right about now, things don't feel right. You strive to do your best, but lately, you've been feeling stuck. No one would know it b/c you present really well - but privately, you're hurting on the inside. The truth is things don't feel right in one or more areas of your life. You're tired of dealing with self-doubt & negative thoughts, feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or burnt out, and not being confident & happy like you want. You might even be tired of carrying around that internal pain you've been trying to keep tucked deep inside. Secretly, you wonder if you can feel better & get through the stuff that's holding you back.

I am a clinical psychologist who works with individuals and couples. Some have been struggling for a long time while others have lost their footing in the face of recent life stress. Change and growth happen when individuals feel that they are taken seriously, understood, accepted, and supported. In this context, my clients become more open, aware, and honest about the full range of their thoughts and feelings. Hope and courage grow as they face life's challenges. They learn new, flexible, and effective ways to think and respond, alter unhelpful patterns in relationships, and gain greater self-acceptance and resilience.

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathises, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviours in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behaviour.
