My goal as your counsellor is to provide a safe, comfortable and caring environment for you to explore your concerns and make the lasting and positive change you desire. I believe in the capacity for each of us to grow into the person we aspire to be and that we have the ability to co create the relationships we long to have. Sometimes we just need help along the way. My counselling approach is specific to your needs. Most often I will work from a developmental, attachment, and trauma informed lens utilizing emotion focused and cognitive behavioral therapies with mindfulness practices.

"Your spark can become a flame and change everything" Hi, I'm Tiffany Petite. I am an evidence based - practitioner who has extensive training and experience in counselling. Have you been stuck in a rut that you can’t get out of? The more you procrastinate the harder it is to achieve your goal to the point you start questioning yourself. This leads to self judgement, shame and blame. Change starts with a single point of action. If things are not going as planned, you are shifting the tide today. I would like to help you facilitate the change you are looking for.

I understand that starting therapy can feel anywhere from daunting to exciting, but know that I am here to help support you through the process. One thing I truly believe is that feeling heard, understood, and accepted is essential for healing. I've seen firsthand how powerful it can be when someone really gets you, and I strive to offer genuine connection in our sessions. I believe everyone experiences moments of feeling completely alone, overwhelmed, or without someone to talk to—I know I have. It is in the aftermath of trauma, or during times when we feel lost, trapped, or isolated, that seeking support becomes most crucial.

New to therapy? Nothing to worry about! Sometimes it's hard making sense and to talk about our feelings, experiences and patterns of behaviours. Empathetic by nature, I'm a progressive therapist, who uses a strength-based approach to help you and/or your partner achieve emotional balance and optimal mental health. My job is to ultimately help you feel comfort, acceptance, and to listen without judgement. Some days we'll laugh and realize those light 'ah ha!' moments while other days we will work hard to uncover those deeply personal truths. If you'd like to know more visit me at: alphacounselling.ca

My role as a counsellor is to create a judgment-free, compassionate space where we can explore and achieve your goals and desired outcomes in therapy. As we work together, I can help you develop awareness about your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and relationships, while examining how they shape the person you are today. This awareness can help guide your future decision-making and problem-solving skills, so that your unique personal and relational needs may be met.

Developing and maintaining relationships is important for living a fulfilling and meaningful life. However, relationships can also be difficult at times. Many of the people I support might be having heated arguments, unsure about their relationship, struggling with desire and intimacy, and have been hurt by a loss of trust. I also support loved ones who are looking to deepen their connection and get the most out of their lives with the people that matter most. In addition to supporting people with relationships, I have a focused interest in men's issues.

I am a strong believer in the power of human connection and the role it plays in our own healing and transformation. In my own life and in my work, I believe in the need to trust and connect with our inner wisdom through the integration of mind, body, heart and soul. I believe that it is through the inevitable pain, chaos, and uncertainty of life that the opportunity for transformation occurs. However, we often cannot do this work alone.

Please note, as of September 15, 2023 I have moved to Suite 502, 933 17th Ave. S.W., Calgary AB T2T 5R6. Relationships have different seasons and cycles. Challenges can arise however when great sex (or any intimacy at all) is a distant memory, communication becomes stuck, and a feeling of closeness is longed for again. These are all signs that a different approach is needed to end the frustration and created a renewed aliveness. The desire for intimacy, to feel connected, and to matter are key aspects of who we are as human beings.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
