As a Christian Therapist with specialized training in psychotherapy, I have seen men and women of faith struggle with anxiety, depression, relational conflicts, PTSD, addictions, etc. I've heard them question God’s love and presence in their lives. There is no denying that life can get messy sometimes! However, one thing I have come to know as true, as a Christian and in my almost 20 years of working with people is that, "The Lord uses Everything in our lives to bring about His purposes." Let's look at Jonah for example; we read that the Lord 'caused' a large fish to swallow him after he attempted to run away from his calling.
The interesting thing to note is that in the original text, it reads that God “Appointed” the fish (not caused). The psalmist writes "all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be." Imagine the complex emotions Jonah experienced! Is this you? Feeling like Jonah that there is no way out? O believer, be of good cheer!
Even in our suffering, the Lord works for the good of His people and uses even the 'broken things' to bring us to the place of His calling. In my practice, while using specialized treatment approaches and the Scriptures, clients learn that like a tapestry, the ‘chaotic threads’ are the exact same things the Lord uses to weave together His Masterpiece!
