My name is Sonia and I am a Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate in beautiful Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Working primarily from a client-centred lens, I believe that each person is an expert in their own lives and that the power to heal comes from within. I will hold an inviting, safe and non-judgemental space for you to explore your feelings, cultivating a therapeutic relationship built on genuineness, unconditional positive regard, and empathic understanding. I strive to get to know you as a whole person, not just your presenting concerns.
In addition to using a client centred approach, I am level one trained in Play Theray and levels one and two trained in sandtray. I often incorporate aspects of other approaches when appropriate. This may include TF-CBT, MCBT, DBT, ACT, Play Therapy, Art therapy, Music therapy, Solution-focussed therapy, Narrative therapy, and EFT.
I warmly welcome military members, veterans, and their families to my practice. As both a military child and wife, I understand the challenges of having a loved one who serves and the difficulty finding helping professionals who can relate to the impact the military lifestyle has on the entire family.
