I support clients holistically using an integrative mind-body therapeutic approach, through a strengths-based, trauma-informed lens.
Many of us experience the feeling of irritability, restlessness, overwhelm or anxiety. Many of us feel stuck in the stories and experiences of our past, or wonder 'why am I like this'? I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. You deserve to be truly heard and understood, and to have your story safely held. I am passionate about working with individuals who experience the complexities of chronic stress, anxiety and trauma. I gently lead with curiosity and compassion, support you in your current season of life, and offer you practical tools, skills, and self-understanding.

When did you last feel "light"? If you’re living with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, panic, conflict and fear, it feels like you are always looking for ways to "get by", cope, and maybe lift some of the burden. Although your circumstances, experiences, and needs may differ, you are not alone. People who face these things often share a common desire- to feel lighter, not weighed down by what they have gone through, or are still going through. Whether by reconnecting with yourself, developing effective ways to manage your symptoms, or simply finding a safe space to rediscover your laughter, it is possible to find healing, peace, and even joy.

The impact of trauma on a person's suffering and how they cope can manifest in many negative ways. Anxiety, depression, loss of self-worth, hopelessness and an inability to care for oneself emotionally and psychologically are common issues. A person may be easily triggered, become more reactive, or shut down completely. This in turn can impact their personal and professional relationships. To pursue a life of calmness requires all our inner strength, our courage, commitment to self and the spirit of championing change.

Counselling Service uses a trauma informed with strengths based and solution focused approaches while integrating mindfulness.
Hi there, the past few years has really impacted all of us in various different ways. Having worked in the health care system for a number of years, I understand the dynamics that interplay when we are personally struggling. Our physical health, mental health, emotional health and spiritual health are all equally important. Those hardships, and stresses we face in life, such as financial burdens, grief, loss, isolation, family dynamics and medical circumstances to name a few, can bring us to a place where we might struggle to find the answers and ways in which to cope.

I take a Trauma-Informed, person-centred, and strength based approach with 10-15 yrs supporting people who have experienced trauma/crisis.
Work-life balance can be difficult to manage on your own, especially if you are struggling with mental health; whether that be from a recent traumatic event or historical trauma. Layered in this can be undiagnosed learning conditions and/or caregiving responsibility, which can lead to heightened emotional stress or crisis. It is helpful to have a support network; either in your personal life, in the community, or even medically. Creating boundaries for ones self is a big step and I can help through this by providing solution-focused, goal oriented strategies, hopefully creating more balance and getting back to your 'normal self'.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
