Integrate a strength-based approach, utilizing aspects of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy; and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
I work with a passion for guiding individuals towards emotional growth and change that reflects their wants and needs. I have an understanding that not every individual is the same, and all humans have different experiences, and responses to life. I establish trust and a nonjudgmental atmosphere. I gear towards active listening in order to deeply comprehend the concerns and needs of the individuals I see, fostering a strong therapeutic bond. With a nonjudgmental attitude, I will embrace individuals for who they are. Come on in, and let’s take this walk together.

My experience includes play therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and cognitive behaviour therapy.
You are the expert in your life and have the strength and resilience necessary to create your preferred future. I am particularly interested in stress management, anxiety, and small or big trauma that happen along the way. My work with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is beneficial for a wide range of ages and presenting concerns. I also have advanced training in play therapy, which is based on developmental principles. It is a process where the child chooses objects, symbols, or types of play to express their concerns and work through particular problems.

My approach is 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and eclectic, including cognitive, narrative, and compassionate elements.
I work with all sorts of people, but 2SLGBTQ+ issues and the challenges of being queer in a majority heterosexual world are often the centre of conversation. I focus on helping people to understand and express their identity in the context of the intersection between 2SLGBTQ+ issues and the mental health struggles that accompany this journey, such as anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Many people in and out of the 2SLGBTQ+ community are struggling with anxious or intrusive thoughts, dealing with family rejection or loss, and experiencing depression. It's time to take control of our identities.

I draw from brainspotting, narrative, mindfulness, feminist, CBT, and polyvagal approaches.
Accepting new clients. You’re looking for a counsellor who does evidence-based therapy, slathered in a healthy dose of dark humour. I get along famously with people who thought they’d hate therapy. The world is a dumpster fire, so it makes sense you feel like garbage. You're paying attention. I'm not going to gaslight you into thinking everything is fine when it isn't. I want to help you reach your goals in the context of the real world, so you can live to your fullest potential. I'll walk with you into the dark, and dance with you in your happiest moments. I'll pump you up, and I'll also call you on your shit. Let's get you healed.

While my work comes from a variety of frameworks including a trauma-focused approach to ACT, Narrative Therapy, REBT, and Parts-Work, our sessions would be based on your unique preferences and needs.
Accepting NEW Clients – Do you find feeling stuck, anxious, or wishing you had more confidence or self-esteem? Are you interested in understanding yourself or your choices more and in digging into the roots of why you feel the way you do? Are you interested in looking at your past, taking your power back over experiences, and learning coping skills or tools? Together, we can look at your past, present, and future goals, and provide you with an understanding of what this means to you.

I draw from many frameworks such as Narrative, CBT, DBT, IFS, as well as EFT and Gottmans with Couples.
Accepting NEW Clients – Are you tired of stress, anxiety, or sadness controlling your mood every day? Do you want to learn to manage your emotions or communicate differently? Are you hoping to feel more like yourself again? Do you hoping to learn more about the "why" and "how" you show up in your relationships, or re-connect with your partner? Has trauma or addiction been something that has followed you around long enough? Whether you're an individual or a couple, together we can look at what you're hoping to get from therapy and how I can support your goals.

Narrative Counsellors

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds — perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
