We use CBT, DBT, EMDR, EFT, Energy Psychology, narrative, solution-focused brief therapy, motivational interviewing and mindfulness strategies.
Shayna, Eileen, and Coralee have several years of experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and more. Mental survival tactics can drain years from our lives, leaving us struggling just to get by, while the pleasures and joys of life seem just beyond our grasp. When people experience severe life stressors or trauma, it often feels like their life is beginning to unravel.

My experience includes play therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and cognitive behaviour therapy.
You are the expert in your life and have the strength and resilience necessary to create your preferred future. I am particularly interested in stress management, anxiety, and small or big trauma that happen along the way. My work with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is beneficial for a wide range of ages and presenting concerns. I also have advanced training in play therapy, which is based on developmental principles. It is a process where the child chooses objects, symbols, or types of play to express their concerns and work through particular problems.

I use a blend of therapies such as body-mind centering, hakomi, parts work, and EMDR.
Hi, I'm Alex! I'm experienced in helping other adults who feel stuck in life. Stuckness might stem from issues within the family or cultural environment, a loss of purpose, significant life transitions, chronic stress, difficulties feeling secure in self, creating or grieving meaningful relationships, or recurring intense emotions/sensations such as anxiety, anger, or sadness (that can feel debilitating or confusing). I also often work with folks who've tried cognitive talk therapies before and want a different approach, those who've been told they're "very aware" but don't know what to do with that, and fellow creatives & helpers.

Welcome here! My practice is based on the belief that the brain has the ability and knows what it needs to heal. I employ EMDR and other techniques to help clients work through traumatic experiences, negative belief systems, and other barriers that keep triggers and their automatic emotional and/or physical responses active and impeding quality of life. No one is too 'broken' or 'damaged' to experience healing and feel better. I work with children and adults, and my main focus is trauma (childhood, abuse, work, relational, complex, etc) and PTSD, though I have experience helping clients with grief and loss, mood disorders, and more.

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
