I understand that starting therapy can feel anywhere from daunting to exciting, but know that I am here to help support you through the process. One thing I truly believe is that feeling heard, understood, and accepted is essential for healing. I've seen firsthand how powerful it can be when someone really gets you, and I strive to offer genuine connection in our sessions. I believe everyone experiences moments of feeling completely alone, overwhelmed, or without someone to talk to—I know I have. It is in the aftermath of trauma, or during times when we feel lost, trapped, or isolated, that seeking support becomes most crucial.

Hello! Throughout my professional life I have had the opportunity to work with children, teenagers and adults who have struggled with issues such as grief and loss, depression and suicidal ideation, anxiety, interpersonal relationship difficulties, and self-esteem issues. I take a relaxed and non-judgmental approach in working with clients, in hopes that therapy will be as comfortable and organic as possible. Struggling from time to time is an inevitable part of life, and sometimes a different perspective or a shift in coping strategies can help to guide you through the tough times.

Being human is just damn HARD sometimes. Struggling with a traumatic event, mental health and/ or addictions can feel like drowning in unseen waves; the waves of grief, anxiety, anger, fear, trauma, relational concerns, transitions, or self-worth. We try to soothe ourselves by acting out on ourselves, or others or engaging in behaviours that harm us and those we love. You can begin the process of rebuilding and reclaiming by slowly and bravely embracing your wounds, all while staying afloat. Together, we will begin to anticipate those waves coming and not get pulled under but rather negotiate them with resounding courage.

Your journey is unique, and your therapy should be tailored to your needs and experiences. You can bring your whole self to our time together - laughter, tears, anger, joy, or grief, and the many layers of yourself. You want to be seen and heard, for someone to understand how much you've been through, and how desperately you want things to change. I support both individuals and couples, and specialize in supporting people in the queer community, neurodivergent folks, as well as those navigating stress, anxiety, and those nurturing their self-esteem and overcoming people pleasing patterns. All are welcome!

As a registered psychologist, I am committed to guiding individuals towards healing and growth. My therapeutic approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and is informed by trauma-sensitive practices. I will also pull from other therapeutic approaches, including emotion-focused therapy, solution-focused, and narrative therapy when appropriate. I believe in tailoring therapy to meet each client's unique needs and preferences. My ultimate goal is to instill hope in those who may feel lost and to empower clients to uncover their inner strength.

Self Esteem Counsellors

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
