You deserve to be loved fully! Can you imagine what your life would look life if you felt truly heard, truly seen? Using the work of Harville Hendrix & Hellen LaKelly Hunt, I teach you how to "Get The Love You Want," based on their work in the book by the same name. Having been a therapist for many years, I can truly say that this is the most simple system for learning to achieve relational harmony, this quickly, that I have come accross. Understanding deeply the pain that is part of the human experience, I teach you Imago Dialogue Skills to transform your self and your relationship with this most elegant communication system.

Accepting new clients: Along your life journey you, or your child/adolescent, may have hit unanticipated challenges, transitions, or trauma, impacting your well-being and capacity to move forward. Others may view you as someone who has it all together, but internally you are stressed, anxious, unmotivated, or shut down. Perhaps, this is happening to your child, or adolescent, and as a parent you have exhausted all ideas, and don’t know where to turn. These difficulties are impacting the emotional/mental health of yourself, your relationships, your work, your schooling, and/or your family dynamics, leaving you feeling unfulfilled.

Clients who see me are often in committed relationships, ones that are new and just getting started or relationships that have a long history of 20-40 years or more. People want to change the relationship, deepen it or decide if it is a keeper. What each person values may need to be clarified and shared. The language they use to communicate may not bring the results they want so we look at changing how they relate, the stance each takes, the influence of family values and history. How about intimacy: is it enough to satisfy each person, is it often enough, is it forgotten?

Do you suffer from intense emotions that you can’t seem to get under control? Maybe it feels like constantly being bombarded with intrusive thoughts or images that you just can’t get out of your head. Maybe you feel like no one really knows you or that you’ve never fully belonged. Maybe you work so hard every day to portray like everything is together but in the back of your mind there an insidious worry that things might just fall apart at any moment. Wherever you are at right now, I will meet you there and work with you to create a treatment plan that allows you to meet your own goals.

I work from the belief that all people make sense. From this lens, I believe all of our parts and patterns have a purpose and that more often than not this purpose is to protect us. But why do these ways of protecting ourselves sometimes feel like they are doing the opposite? Together we will bring curiosity and compassion towards this question while adapting new perspectives and reorganizing patterns within yourself, your nervous system and your relationships.

Therapy shouldn't feel like a chore. While it might sometimes be hard to hear what is discussed in therapy, overall you should leave feeling like you've gained something useful or even transformative. Over time, you should feel you are getting stronger, more resilient and have shed layers of fear and anxiety. Of course this process can be overwhelming at times and you might not always progress on the timeframe that you thought you would, but when therapy goes well, you should feel more settled and more clear about your life. You should gain understanding about yourself and others and have a renewed sense of purpose and passion

Therapy is a journey back to our own wisdom, and to our physical bodies. Sometimes we can become overwhelmed with emotions, anxiety, and with life. Using a compassionate, relational approach, I can help bring you back in touch with the various parts of yourself, to see what is stuck and what has to fade in order to find the song of who you truly are. We will explore through many experiences of embodiment, parts work, roleplay, dreams, and dialogue so that through awarenesses that emerge, you will have opportunity to see your life and relationships differently, allowing you to make empowered choices for yourself and others.

Art therapy is an ideal way for individuals or groups to explore therapy and find healing and support. Therapy can be joyful and creative. My ideal client is open to discover positive and supportive creative and client-focused approaches. Whether you require talk, expressive (non-verbal), brief, long-term, individual or group art therapy, it is a realistic goal. Art-making can explore your stuck or painful feelings, alter any thoughts or behaviours affected by fear, abuse, uncertainty, trauma, grief, loss, diminished moral, or work-stress and anxiety. I look forward to discuss your treatment goals and explore our journey together.

Maybe you're not feeling like yourself lately (worried, sad, irritable, lonely, stressed). Feeling like this can be exhausting. Maybe you have thought of reaching out for help, but even just the thought of that overwhelms you. Let me start by saying that you are not alone! Symptoms of anxiety and depression tend to keep us feeling stuck, creating negative thoughts of self, and preventing us from doing what we need the most...connecting. What 'they' don't want you to know is that when you find the courage to reach out, you are opening the door to new possibilities. You matter and you deserve to feel better! Together, you can heal.

Finding the courage and motivation to seek support to become a healthier, more self-aware version of yourself is a sign of great emotional and mental strength. As your therapist, I work alongside you to come up with solutions and new perspectives while utilizing the skills you already obtain or gain in therapy to navigate your presenting issues. I value the uniqueness of each and every client story, and approach clients with empathy, unconditional positive regard, and non-judgment. I truly believe that the clients are the experts of their own lives, and building strong therapeutic rapport and trust with clients is top priority.

Accepting New Clients! I am well renowned for working with relationship issues (using attachment theory) with individuals and couples, and mood disorders (depression, anxiety). I have robust expertise in treating concerns surrounding sleep/insomnia. Beyond that I treat struggles of self-esteem/self-worth, existential questions, burnout, life transitions, and other concerns. I also have lengthy career experience working therapeutically with grief and loss, as well as caregiver burnout. Yes that's a lot, but I just thinking helping people to heal is very neat, and so I studied and have learned much.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
