Struggles in relationships, traumatic/problematic situations and unwanted thoughts do come into our lives but these struggles lie in our capacity to listen to our emotions and hear what it is they are trying to tell us about all of these things. Our emotions are an early warning system that calls us to action because we are seeking resonance (love, joy, balance, peace) in our lives. When things resonate with us, they feel right. It's a visceral gut reaction. Unfortunately, emotions don't speak English. Our thoughts do.
There are many concrete skills and practices to help develop our capacity to learn how to understand this language of emotions. Ways to develop the relationship with ourselves, so that no matter what is going on around us or within us, we can learn how to act upon these emotions rather than seeing them simply as bad or good. This confidence builds resonance.
Struggles in our lives feel overwhelming. Nobody taught us to listen to our hearts. Thoughts dominate how we think and act in our lives, often at the cost of our hearts. We can't directly change what is happening around us. We can change how we think and respond to them. Change is about taking a first step. To find resonance. Everything else will follow.
