When it comes to personal growth I believe that we all have the capacity to feel whole and lead fulfilling lives despite the struggles we experience. In fact, I believe we can grow to accept our life experiences and challenges as opportunities to recognize and refine our unique strengths. I support individuals looking to develop more self-awareness, heal trauma, incorporate healthier coping habits, and gain more connection with their life.

Life has a way of throwing us curve balls- often when we least expect it. These transitions can be challenging to work through. My hope is for you to feel safe to be your authentic self and feel supported. We will work on having self compassion and be present with your emotions. Then we can work together to process these emotions.

My ideal client would be someone who understands that change comes from the willingness to learn. Their goal would be harm reduction or sobriety. Their needs would be someone to guide them through their thoughts and emotions. Their issues would be what they are wanting to change.

Thanks for checking out my profile! I am a psychotherapist in Manitoba, Canada with a background in supporting people with nutrition. For this reason, I work a lot in the area of food, mental health, emotions, and trauma. An important part of my work involves exploring how trauma and mental health might be affecting a person’s experience with food and eating. Often we use food as a way to regulate our emotions and help us feel more balanced, which can bring up feelings of guilt and shame. I am passionate about helping people struggling with disordered eating, binge eating, emotional eating, and trauma.

With over 30 years of experience in working with children, teens, adults, elderly, and mental health client groups, I have gained extensive knowledge and practical experience in caring for others, in a professional capacity. My long-term goal is to assist those who feel lost and confused by the numerous choices they face, particularly individuals who are too anxious to navigate the journey on their own. My commitment and passion lie in working with people at the point of their need. I am more focused on understanding how the client is managing the challenges they are experiencing rather than just the diagnosis or label.

In a nutshell, what I am all about is connecting to my clients with acceptance and compassion to allow a safe space for them to connect back to themselves. I believe many messages and experiences can leave people very disconnected which can manifest as depression, anxiety, PTSD, addictions, difficult or toxic relationships, loneliness and general unhappiness.

You've been considering therapy, but aren't so sure it can really help you. Or maybe you've tried therapy before, and you've talked your way around your issues more times than you can count with little relief. The intensity of emotions has been all consuming. Feelings of depression, anxiety, anger, fear are derailing daily life, and being able to show up any other way feels hopeless. You are yearning for change, ready to try something different to help you really move through those past experiences and change those trauma patterns. Whether you are wanting support for yourself or your child, I can help.

Are you an adult or teen who feels like counselling would be beneficial for you but you're not sure where to start or you've had a negative experience in the past? Perhaps you're trying to grow your family or are an expectant/new parent or someone who is navigating farm, work or family stressors? I get it, it can be really tough to reach out for support. You need someone to provide a safe place for you to feel heard, supported and understood. Someone who can work with you to identify your strengths and offer support in the areas you find a little more challenging.

If you have never tried counselling, or tried and didn’t find it worked for you, please try again and experience what it is like to have someone caring and nonjudgmental hold space just for you and your story. I believe strongly that a trusting and safe relationship can make all the difference in therapy, allowing you to explore and develop insight guiding your growth and recovery. I strive to promote an atmosphere that encourages vulnerability, using strength based and emotionally focused approaches to support your journey, as well as incorporating CBT and DBT skills training when appropriate.

I believe that therapeutic rapport is an essential part of a healthy therapist-client relationship. My goal is to help the client feel respected, safe and express unconditional positive regard so that therapy can be successful. I believe that the client is the best teller of their own stories. Based on this I find that the Person-centered approach is effective when working with a client. I am there to help encourage, support and guide the client through their own journey of self-discovery. I believe in acknowledging a persons strengths to help them achieve their goals.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
