I help people to help identify and tackle the obstacles blocking them from enjoying a healthier, happier, more fulfilling life. We’ll work collaboratively to understand how your past may influence your life today, how you currently make sense of and derive meaning and purpose from life, and how you can bolster your resilience when faced with future challenging experiences.

Analogy for therapy: Psychologist and patient shovel together. The deeper we dig the more we discover. No forcing. not imposing. Some findings may hurt, some may alleviate. We stop when you decide. Therapy is a confidential space to get to know who you are and why but most importantly to find out who you would like to be. I’m an active listener; I question, challenge, I sometimes confront, I engage…always with respect and ethic!

Dear clients, I am the President and co-founder of the Montreal Psychology Center. My specialties include Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Anxiety and Depression. In addition, I completed specialized training in couple therapy. While working as a therapist at Montreal’s Royal Victoria Hospital (2004-2007), I was the co-developer of a workshop for couples entitled “Make Love Better”. This 8-week seminar was designed to help couples improve their relationships by promoting effective communication and enhancing emotional and sexual intimacy. My expertise on couple problems has been sought after by the media (e.g., CJAD, Syd Miller Show).

Feeling stuck, disconnected, or "not normal"? Amidst the complexities of life, it's common to feel discouraged, overwhelmed or a sense of not fitting in. Many people struggle with their mental health without seeking help, and this struggle may lead to addiction, anxiety, depression, poor relationships or low self-worth. The journey to overcome these struggles begins with acknowledging the need for support and continues with learning how to understand and process our emotions. As I am a certified music therapist, we also have the option of using your preferred music as an avenue to deepen our work together.

My therapeutic approach is psychoanalytic. When the mind is in conflict with itself it can lead to symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and self defeating behaviours. By making sense of the unconscious mind and its conflicts, one can begin to heal from past experiences, improve current relationships and develop a more fulfilling relationship with oneself.

All of us have, at times, struggled to live our lives in a way that feels fulfilling. We can become stuck in a cycle of negative thinking, dreary feelings, and ineffectual behaviours. In the midst of the many challenges in life, having someone share part of the journey with you and help provide clarity can be enormously helpful. I am a psychologist with over twenty years of experience counselling individuals, leading groups, and supervising therapists-in-training. I have successfully treated a variety of needs and find meaning in working with grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

NEXT-GENERATION PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES! Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is not just 'talk therapy' but based on scientific evidence. If you are looking for therapy that is structured and goal-directed, that provides tools to manage emotions and that focuses on the present, then CBT is for you. Here is how my beliefs and core values drive 'why I do' what I do for people. I believe that: 1) Everyone has the right, as well as the potential, to be happy and fulfilled in life and; 2) that when you become happier you help change the world one small step at a time.

We come to therapy for many reasons. You may be suffering from constant worry, feelings of worthlessness, shame, the impact of an illness, grief, meaninglessness, or unfulfilling relationships. You may struggle to connect with a loved one and feel profoundly alone even (or especially) with others. You may have a painful piece of your past that robs you of your present. You may just feel stuck in your life and need direction. Or you might be seeking help for other reasons. I’m here to assist you in finding answers that work for you, in healing emotional wounds, and in improving your relationships.

Does it feel risky to have certain emotions, especially towards people you care about? Does frustration often lead to tears, self-criticism, or self-doubt? When triggered by someone in your life, do you experience anxiety? Do conflicts in relationships result in headaches, stomach issues, tension, or other forms of bodily distress? Or cause you to feel down or depressed? If any of these questions resonate with you, you're not alone. Over decades of practice, I've seen time and again that clients come to psychotherapy having suffered enough and possessing incredible potential for change. Change is possible, and therapy can help.

I can help you discover a different way of looking at your life to expose fresh opportunities and create new hope. I have facilitated the search for clarity in many clients by asking questions that expose the underlying obstacles to happiness and fulfillment, then suggesting strategies that provide opportunities for permanent change. With a listening, non-judgmental, easy-going approach to therapy along with a collaborative method that encourages a search for solutions on the part of both therapist and client, we will explore possibilities together. Effective communication enhances emotional and mental well-being, and that's the hallmark of the way we will engage.

My aim is to guide my clients towards understanding and acceptance of (being with) their emotional experience so that they feel complete, free and more connected to others. Engaging in therapy with me involves warmth and empathy, which allows my clients to freely express, and understand, their experience. I validate the experience of my clients so that they genuinely begin feel well with who they are. I use empirically supported treatments that treat difficult emotions such as sadness, anger, and fear (Emotion Focused Therapy) or problematic thinking patterns related to anxiety/depression (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
