Transgender Therapists in Montréal, QC
I am currently completing a thesis at McGill on the relationship between trauma and gender dysphoria and euphoria.
I am queer, neurodivergent and a parent. I have 14 years of clinical experience in psychiatric, addictions, relational and childhood trauma and community work. My first language is English. I work to help people integrate their thoughts, emotions, somatic experiences and stories of empowerment so they can make sense of the world during these difficult times. I have worked with issues such as Depression, Stress Management, CPTSD, Anxiety, ADHD, Autism, Gender Dysphoria, Eating Disorders, Addictions, BPD and PTSD. I believe people are more than their diagnosis. Psychiatry must be deconstructed for us to find our true potential.

Through CFT training, an internship at MUSIC, and being a member of the transgender research group, I have developed a growing competency and keen interest in working with 2SLGBTQIA+ racialized, immigrant clients and couples.
Maneuvering through the different stages of "Life Journey" can be fulfilling as well as filled with periods of high stress, and emotional imbalance. Through the guiding principles of dignity, diversity, and self-determination, individual therapy brings growth by focusing on your strengths and resilience. Couple therapy can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection in all stages of their relationship. Through the process of couple therapy, I vow to help you understand and become unstuck from the repetitive cycle of miscommunication, stepping on each other's toes, and triggering unhealed wounds.

As much as we may want something or to be some way, we can find it difficult to arrive. Our work, then, is to examine ourselves in our beautiful complexity, to seek to truly understand and to fully experience ourselves, to become alive to our experience. In this way we come to allow ourselves to move forward and to discover new ways of being and relating. It is through learning to speak our truths, connecting with what we've always known but perhaps struggled to articulate, that we can find a new path forward.

In my 18 years of working as a psychologist I have met with all types of people facing a myriad of challenges. What I have learned over the years is every one of us is doing our very best to get through life. Sometimes, we need help learning new ways to be our best selves. My goal in therapy is guiding people not just to survive, but to thrive. I will meet you where you are, and build from there. I like to teach skills that can be used long after therapy has ended. I focus not only on healing trauma and reducing symptoms, but I also help others find meaning and fulfillment in order to enjoy life again.

It would be great to find support to navigate the ups and downs without having to constantly educate your therapist about your experiences, and what it means to live in your body. You're looking for someone who will really listen, who affirms you and cares about your well-being and who will be there to help you define your life on your own terms.

Hi! I’m a Black, queer, non-binary social worker and yoga facilitator. Sometimes we have experiences in life that can feel heavy, and they bring up emotions that can stay with us and overwhelm us. Using my training in somatic and other modalities, I help people explore their emotions to better understand and navigate them, as well as build deeper connections with themselves and with others. I believe everyone has the ability to heal themselves, and I am passionate about supporting this journey. I mostly work with queer, trans and/or racialized people, but I also support many other communities.

We all struggle sometimes and deserve support. Life can be hard, because of a conflict, transition, separation, loss, or because the world's sick and it's a lot harder for some to survive. It can help to talk, feel supported and heard by someone who can validate and understand our reality. I hope to create an environment full of care, including for queer and trans folks and their loved ones, and everyone living at the intersection of one or several forms of oppression. It's crucial for me to recognize and centre the expertise of each person over their own lived experience.

Are you trying to truly know and see yourself? To develop a friendship? In a world that can be as traumatizing and confusing as ours, many of us must become selves that survive and accommodate. It can be hard to meet and develop other sides of yourself, especially when self-curiosity and changing are rarely taught and encouraged. This is made even harder when one has gone through trauma. Colonial, capitalistic and supremacists systems and mindsets program us to see ourselves and others as ideas and objects. In our work together we can explore how to authentically and joyfully connect.

Glad to have you here — maybe we can find out if I’m someone you’d like as a part of your support system. It would be my gladness to collaborate with you in finding what you need to reach your therapeutic goals. In every case, I will respect your judgement about what you need to move towards growth and I will always do my best to adapt the tools I bring to our sessions to suit your needs. Sometimes we’ll talk carefully through details of your past. Sometimes we’ll use art to explore new ways to face your challenges. Sometimes we’ll find it the most possible to approach the underbelly of your struggles with metaphor and story-making.

I believe that each us carries inherent goodness inside of us, and sometimes we can become stuck. As a therapist, I see my role as creating a space where you can feel supported to explore the parts of you that are hurting and also to nurture your own inner compassion and wisdom. Working from a non-pathologizing approach, I believe that all behaviour meets a need. The work of therapy is to develop a deeper understanding of what purpose protective mechanisms like addiction, anxiety, and self-harm have played in your life, and what you need to feel supported to grow and change.

We all have a need to feel heard. Whether it be about something seemingly small or about a deep-rooted trauma, feeling seen, heard, and understood can make a significant difference in our lives. Through a process called Drama Therapy, so many parts of our lives can be explored: relationships, colonization, racism, gender, disability, neurodivergence, and so much more. Through talking, movement, play, and creativity in the presence of a trusted drama therapist, any adult or child can explore the personal and societal dynamics within their life along with the relationship between mind and body to create a balanced healing process.

If today seems like an interminable day, and sets the stage for a profound apprehension for tomorrow, whether individually, within your couple or your family; it is maybe time to consult. Whomever you choose, be sure to be comfortable and feel safe. If you are interested in someone who has a compassionate ear and a reassuring expertise, perhaps we could work collaboratively at finding ways to foster harmony, confidence and peace for you and your close ones. Trained as Couple and Family Therapist at Syracuse University, I work as much with couples, families as individuals.

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognise a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognise a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
